And it's smart. Samsung may be an apple wanna be, but I don't know how much I'd trust google either. And they realize they can control their own destiny instead of watching Google goofing off with google glass and chromebooks.
Samsung will have to stand in line until MotoMo is finished screwing Google.
Moto is an extra weight added to the Google train, slowing it down. Moto is bleeding cash, therefore, google is bleeding cash. We'll see if the Moto X fixes this.. (Doubt it.)
Will it affect Google other than a pride standpoint? Not sure. People will likely keep using Google services and viewing mobile ads.
It will heavily affect Google if the OS doesn't report back to Google where you are, what you're buying and who are your list of friends... Google didn't throw this OS on the market for free because they love you. Remember, with Google you are not the customer, you are the product.
Can't wait until Samsung fucks over Google (and itself) by inevitably forking the OS, or basically replacing all of Google's built in apps with its own, or religating the Play Store as a secondary store behind it's own Samsung store. It's not a matter of if, it's when. They've been moving towards that direction for a while. And Samsung has enough hubris to actually think it's a good idea. This "Samsung exclusive" Android app campaign they're building is so utterly toxic to the Android ecosystem and dev environment. Watch them pay off all the major devs to make their apps Galaxy exclusive- and why not? They can afford it, and devs are barely making any money on the Android platform anyway. Samsung can afford to buy them off and basically make it so that it does not make sense to even consider buying a non-Galaxy Android phone.
in related news, Samsung is going to rebrand itself by naming itself "Apple". Court document show that this is allowed since previous rulings allow wholesale copying of art, dress and technology.

Yep. And the market will perceive it as a genius happenstance (since they make no money anyway, from any of this stuff), so Google's stock price will actually go up!
They are like the awkward kid down the block who nobody wants to play with, so he is left to play with himself and have tea parties with his stuffed animals. How totally, utterly sad...
Well, they are not going to war yet but its looks like Samsung has an itch to drop google at some point. IF Samsung pulled an amazon on google, then yes, google is in it to the nose.
click ads are shifting from desktop to mobile and if the biggest android handset maker drops google, its going to hurt google income hard.
True but remember most Android users are not actually using the internet lol

Hahahahahahaha!
Made my day, thanks.
Samsung forking Android to an extent that would include a large set Galaxy only APIs or even replacing Android with Tizen or whatever would essentially kill the Android ecosystem and developer community as we know it.
Frankly, if Android didn't get forked, you'd have to say it wasn't open-source. Linux has been forked like crazy, and rather than weaken it, its stronger than ever. As long as Android serves its duty of preventing any one player from owning the mobile market, it will have done its job in preserving competition.
Nevrmind the the fact that this conference makes absolutely no sense, since SAmsung does not develop or maintain the platform nor the tools for Android dvelopment. Apple dev conferences make sense. So do Microsoft ones. And Google. And Blackberry. Palm ones made sense do. Because those guys are all in charge of their own damn platforms, developer APIs, and development tools. What insight could Samung possibly convey to developers? Their shitty skins and modifications cause nothing but lag on their devices. Look at the S4, for example. The play edition, which is exactly the same phone but with all of Samsung's software modifications stripped out, is reviewed significantly higher almost everywhere. Samsung's OWN hardware is reviewed higher when its software is stripped out. What does that tell you?I can't believe that a company who's software is universally considered a LIABILITY to the underlying OS (which it has absolutely no hand or say in developing) has the hubris to host developer conferences.
How many google engineers does it take to change light bulb A. None, Google sucks all the light out of all the lightbulbs and creates darkness hence evil
Wow, Samesung really is desperate to be the next Apple, eh?
It's not the copying that's funny. It's the fact that for years, people have derided Apple's vertically integrated business model as not offering the consumer enough choice. People have steadfastly supported the Microsoft model of universal licensing. Google emulated this approach, touting it as an "open" model that offers consumers choices. Yet, here we are today where companies are moving toward the Apple model. Samsung started out as an OEM. Now, they're taking a more active role in other elements of the smartphone experience, such as software and services. It has come to a point where people identify with the Samsung brand more than Google. Even Google is starting to get into making their own phones with their acquisition of Motorola.

Extra sessions on operating a photocopier.

LOL. Except Google doesn't believe in competition, because they used the OHA rules to prevent Acer from selling a Aliyun (an Android fork) handset in China.

The message is: "thou shalt not worship any Android fork before Google's."

None: they just steal a new lightbulb from Apple.

Even that, I still think it's not ripping off. Sony had their own premium stores long before Apple.
This is funny. Google and Samsung in the same bed but seems the competition between the two is heating up.
