router help...

hi i have two pcs at home: a mac and a pc... and i just bought a router (microsoft wired base station mn-100) to share my current cable internet connection... i already installed it, and i can connect to msn messenger, or conect to kazaa on the pc, but i cant navigate with my web browser on either pc... any knows how can i fix this??

    It sounds like a DNS(nameserver) problem. Check your config stuff on your router to see if its picking up a DNS server via DHCP if its not you may have to enter one manually.

    thanks... but its not that, it does get the ips from a dhcp server... its bizarre because i dont know why i connect to messenger or kazaa(running on a pc) but i cant browse the web...

    on the mac on osx open a term window

    & type

    nslookup <a href="http://www.cnn.com"; target="_blank">www.cnn.com</a> & see if that resolves



    on the pc if its win2k/xp open a cmd window

    & type the above





    btw the m$ router/hub is one of the worst ones

    ever made....get a linksys

    Just a thought: many cable companies work with a proxy server, through which all (esp. http) traffic HAS to pass. So: do you know if you are bound to a proxy server?

    they dont use proxies... is a problem with the dns, but i cant seem to find a solution

    There should be somewhere in your router setup that you can define the DNS because it sounds like its not getting it automagically from your isp's DHCP server. If yo ucan't find it in there you could set it on each machine.
