10.2.4 Issues

I upgraded my 12" PowerBook to 10.2.4 earlier today, and now I'm having some strange issues. I haven't found any posts about issues like these, so I thought I'd start one here.

The most puzzling (and disturbing) problems I have involve anonymous crashes that kick me back to the login screen.

If I try to mount any SMB share (whether it's on a Linux host or a Windows host), I'm suddenly dumped back to the login window instead of being asked to select a share to mount.

Even more perplexing, if I choose "About this Mac ...", the same thing happens.

Any ideas?

I'd just like to add another issue I'm having.

Every time I log back in, I receive a report that ATSServer crashes. In the log, it complains about a corrupted FODB cache file (I believe this is font-related).

I've deleted every [known] ATSServer cache file, but this occurs every time I start up. Does anyone know where I can find out detailed information about system components -- i.e. what ATSServer does, arguments it accepts, etc.? (Does Apple even have a repository of this kind of useful information for techie types?)

Better yet, anyone know how to fix that?

I've had the unexpected crashes back to the login screen since I first started using X in 10.1. I think I read about an explanation somewhere once, but I have since forgotten abuot it since it wasn't a problem I could fix.

Actually, I just solved my own problem.

Through the Terminal, I clean up all the ATSServer caches. From what I can tell, the ATSServer (Apple Type Solution Server) is like Mac OS X's xfs/font server counterpart.

Anyway, I rebooted (for the third time) out of frustration, and this time, everything works, SMB shares and all. Go figure.

Might as well add to 10.2.4 issues...

My monitor resolution changes when I wake from sleep (DVI on Radeon 9000 MDD). Annoying. Had to restart because I couldn't get the monitor to display after fudging with the monitor settings, grr. In fact Display prefs tells me it is a VGA display, when it isn't...

Ok I think I've licked the Problem.

its all about your system fonts. don't let Font reserve or any font management mess with your system fonts.
