VCD playback

10.2.3, Ti800 768MB RAM PB v2.1 (combo)

is it possible to play VCD's on the combo drive? It doesn't appear that DVD player will do it? I tried double clicking on what I think it the file, but nothing will open it. I can't seem to find a way for QT, WMP or RP to open it either (not that I thought they would, but I'm trying everything!)

any suggestions?

VLC, or VideoLanClient is really what you want. The latest version allows you most of what DVD player lets you do, PLUS play a whole lot of fomats Quicktime won't even look at, or play correctly. AND it works quite nice (meaning: not 'shocky') on my iBook 600, so it should run like butter on a hot summer day on your Ti.

worked perfectly. Thank you so much for the help.

Just out of curiosity, why doesn't DVD Player play VCD's? I mean, if the drive is capable of the playback, why doesn't apple just add the software capability. IT can't be that tough if I just downloaded a 3.2MB program for free that can do it.

SVCDs and VCD are mostly pirated movies, so Apple won't be supporting them directly. IMO.

That's very much not the case. This one is of a family members graduation. VCD's are pretty common, at least around here. Much cheaper than DVD. But thanks for the answer.

Well, considering that el Gato's Eye TV is getting all kinds of attention, there is hope that this position will change. I'd love to be able to watch my VCDs of the West Wing without having to keep a copy of them as mpgs.

    Cheers
