If they don't come today, then Apollo? (Powermac upgrade, or lack thereof)
Personally, it seems all signs point to Apollo.
No one seriously believes that the G5 is coming anytime before MWNY, and most reliable sources (though admittedly not all) point to even later than that.
If Apple didn't go with faster 7451's (which must surely exist; people have been overclocking the 800 and 867 to a GHz or more with no add'l cooling required), then it seems to me that the middle path is the way forward: Apollo 7460.
Apple is probably holding off on upgrading the Powermac until they can hit with faster G4's AND DDR. After all, a mere speed increase to 1 GHz would be taken very poorly by the Faithful. The Faithful will also require a significant motherboard overhaul before upgrading, so maybe also Gigawire and HyperTransport as well.
So, that having been said, I'll bet on at least some of the folowing:
The next Powermac is a G4 (Apollo) topping out at 1.2 - 1.4 GHz
It will have DDR.
It will have Gigawire.
It will be released at Seybold (like the original G4 in SF) New York. Seybold is a poweruser/graphics pro convention, and what bellter venue that that to have Apple say that They have not been Forsaken?

Actually, I tend to think it might come as early as WWDC.
Apollo will more than likely be used by the iMac, TiBook, and probably the iBook as well by Christmas.

750 and 7441/51 don't seem like desktop chips, either, but there they were. I think the fact that the lower heat and power usage of Apollo blinds people to the fact that those same characteristics make higher clock speeds possible.
I haven't seen any CONVINCING evidence (as in, not the same old 3rd hand info from some website somewhere and Moto's own info says that the simpler 8540 won't even sample until then not to mention that if you call one of the alleged suppliers of the 8540, they don't have any, and won't any time soon)) that anything of the 85xx generation will be available until 2H 2002 (at the earliest). Methinks that Tarbash and Nostradamus are engaged in wishful thinking.

I think we will see a G5 ANNOUNCEMENT as soon as February, shipping at Seybold.

This is exactly what I believe, except that I think the G5 will be announced at MWT, WWDC, or a special event, anytime before the end of April.
As I suspected, that rumor about new powermacs today was BS.
Apple just has to put some distance between the PM's and iMacs.
I think the Apollos are for Powerbooks and future iMac and iBook revisions.Apple needs the G4 to last for awhile.
I believe and hope that the G4 has seen its final days in the PM line.

It's possible that, as he IS the president of Ambrosia, a major Mac software developer, that he does have inside info (such as access to prototype hardware). If he said "I think the G5 is coming soon," and it was, then there might be NDA issues. Therefore, I think his flat-out denial points to a real (not a renamed Apollo) G5 in Feb. 2002.

I don't think he ever claimed anything of the sort. I also think the point of his post is that Feb. this year is waaay too soon, not that it will necessarily take until Feb. 2003.
