PB G3: cant boot from osx cd

Ok so I'm trying to install Jag on a 233 powerbook G3 just for kicks, and I'm having this problem:

When I try to boot from the disk the new gray apple logo comes up and it looks like its booting, (the circle thing is spinning) then like two bars of black and white "static" appear and stay on the screen. The circle thing keeps spinning but I could leave it there for a half hour and it doesn't get any farther. I just clean installed 9.2, btw. Any advice

Sorry if I wasnt clear, this is the Powerbook G3 Series 233 (Main Street or Wall Street)

Wasnt the original Powerbook G3 a 250 and called kanga

    Apple-history.com shows I can go up to 10.2.4 on the G3 233

Hmm just realized it only has 64mb of ram, I know osx wants 128 min, but could that mess up the boot from cd proccess?

    I too have a PB Mainstreet ( 233 MHz Wallstreet ).

I do not recall the error that I had gotten, but I was not able to install 10.2.4 originally either.

    [ I only had 64 MB ]

I added memory and now have 192 MB [ 128 MB lower, 64 MB upper ].

10.2.4 would install but was not very stable.

However, I then redid the install with both a Firewire and USB PCMCIA card inserted. It is many times more stable when I leave the cards in.

I had wondered if anyone else found this to be true.

Oh, and yes there is a bar of "static" at the bottom of the desktop, the Contrast button becomes a Volume control, and the floppy, modem and IR do not seem to work using any OS X.

    Good luck.

So has anyone had experience running this on an older pci mac (ie 7500)? I would love to run OSX on it. Would a sonnet or newertech g4 and this utilty work well? Anyone have actual experience with this?

Would I need to install a USB and better video card?

Thats weird, not having usb and firewire makes OSX freak out.

So that "static" bar is on the desktop all the time! bummer

We just had one sitting around the office that I wanted to mess around with, but if I gotta buy ram, a usb, and firewire card then have it not work right anyway, I dunno if its really worth it. Thanks for help though guys!

Might be worth having a look over at <a href="http://www.xlr8yourmac.com"; target="_blank">xlr8yourmac, usually Mike's got reports from people doing massively unsupported stuff.

mmmhhh, I had kind of the same problem when I wanted to do a clean install of Jag on my TiPb. Gray apple, bb spinning and static bs on the screen. The first time I used an install CD copied with Toast. Finally, it worked with an original CD...
