DVD player on external DVD-R?

I recently got an external DVD burner. About a month later, the DVD drive in my PC crapped out, so I removed the interal DVD drive on my Mac and stuck in an old 24x IDE CD-ROM (works just fine).



Problem is, DVD player somehow got deleted from my hard drive after I did this. When I tried to put it back, it gives me a "serious error" and won't allow me to play DVDs. Any idea how I could get this thing to work?

    DVD Player.app doesn't work with external drives. You'd have to install it internally.
