Does anyone have the Formac studio?

Do you think it can beat Macrovision? Their spec sheet says :

"Capture analog and digital video: Formac studio provides input and output for Composite Video (RCA), S-Video and two FireWire interfaces. Simply hook up your VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, DV/D8 camcorder / VCR or DVD player and capture movies straight to your Mac - full-screen at 30 frames per second! Of course Formac studio supports all major movie formats such as 4:3, 16:10, 16:9 and 2.35:1."

So I could record a DVD movie onto my HD, and then record it to VHS? I doubt it would beat Macrovision though.

Also, how many MB of hard disc space does approx. 1 Hr. of analog VHS require? I would like to transfew the World Series to digital and eventually move it to DVD when I get a superdrive.

This thing seems pretty cool, the sell it at the apple store. I may get one, but I would for sure if it was a runaround of macrovision.

As far as I know, the Sony DVMC series are the only ones that actually use the Macrovision signal.

The PowerR Director's Cut, Dazzle Hollywood and Formac Studio all "strip" the Macrovision signal. I'm personally looking at the Director's Cut myself. I've heard bad things about the Dazzle Hollywood, and have heard that Formac is a pain to deal with.

could take anywhere from 28 GBs to 43 GBs depending on whether it imports at 8 or 12 MB/sec.

In other words, analog takes up a hell of a lot of space when uncompresses.

    forgot to mention:

The formac will import and convert the analog to a DV stream on the fly.

    Thus:

1 hour = around 14.4 GBs in DV stream

Hmm, I was able to download hacked firmware for my DVD player, which removed macrovision, and made my player region free. I even added a custom background picture.

I've used the Dazzle a lot, and I have had no problems whatsoever with it. Works exactly as advertised.

What should I be looking for here?

BTW, this is for the Mac DVD player, and not a full-sized player, right? I hope so...
