Palm m500 w/32MB SD card. I love my Palm, and I will keep it until the ARM-based Palms come out, if they ever do. I started out with an Ice Visor Deluxe, then upgraded to a Visor Pro, and then my current m500. I have a Performance Service Plan at Best Buy on mine, so if even the slightest thing goes wrong I get a new one. I can also upgrade to a newer and/or better model by paying the difference. My last Palm had a crooked screen.
I enjoy playing SimCity (the REAL thing, ported to the Palm by some software company), other games, listening to MP3's and watching movies on my Palm (through the Piezo <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> )
Mine is a Newton Messagepad 2100, I enjoy taking notes with it (the screen is awesome for text input, it takes quite a bit of abuse, unlike any palm's screen), get on icq and jabber.
it's save to say that my Newton is very useful, instead of just a Gameboy with really bad screen.

I have to agree on this - the Palms do have fragile screens. However, I have yet to break mine, and I keep a screen protector on it at all times. Mine is a WriteRight - unlike the Visor ones, though, mine is clear and smooth, and doesn't have the glare associated with the Visor WriteRights. In fact, it feels just as if I had no screen protector on
But Newtons do have wonderful screens - and the resolution is great. The Palm lacks resolution, but I would rather have a PDA that has thousands of applications and accessories than one that is unsupported.
Actually, I think Apple should buy Palm, then take the best of both devices. For example, they could make a Newton the size, shape, and exterior of the Palm m50x series, add a higher resolution LCD, a PCMCIA card slot, and devise a Newton/Palm OS that would run software for both operating systems. Then we would have the best of both worlds.
It was quite a dissapointment when it arrived because it's not the same type of experience as getting a new Mac. Just need to wait a couple of weeks until my SuperDrive iMac and iPod arrive then

yeah but the springboard slot can be used to do the same thing... just buy an adaptor for SD, CF, mem stick whatever you want... 100X more useful then the palm "expansion" slot...

Off topic - is there any reason why i cannot use the IR on my Pismo to transfer files bet Ipaq and Mac - it talks to my palm, used to talk to my Psion, my Nokia. There must be a reason...

I have a $200 Handspring Visor which is only used as a somewhat functional alarm clock. It just is not as useful as the Newton.
I tried using it to keep track of my finances, but thanks to Graffiti, it is just way too cumbersome.
The secret to the Newton's power was the Intelligent Assistants. I love being able to write "Lunch with Sandy" on the screen and have a meeting automatically scheduled!
Unfortunately, I can't connect it to my G4. And, even if I could, I can't run the Newton Backup or Connectivity software. (Unless someone has a good solution.) <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

I don't want to get into an argument about Palm vs. Newton (since the Palm would clearly win hands down ), but if you people would just give graffiti a chance, you would notice how nicely it works!! It may take a few weeks or more to get used to it, but once you are you will enjoy it. I use it all the time on my Palm, taking notes and writing programs. No problem. In fact, it is much better than the Newton OS (even version 2.x, so you don't start using that to helplessly try and defend the Newton) handwriting recognition, which translates Hello into H3110 and stuff like that (I have very good handwrting too, and have used it a bunch on the Newton, and it doesn't work quite as nice as graffiti).

Plus, grafitti sucks, plain and simple. It's hands down the worst part of the Palm OS.

I think you would be better off arguing with the wall about the color it's painted. He's made his mind up. But we all know that the Newton HWR is the best available. Now, if Apple would just release a new one that's thinner and had an adaptable HWR like Via Voice has for voice recognition. That would absolutely kick a$$ (stupid filters ) I still love my Newton. I made a new book with newton press out of an article I have to read and can drag and drop right into my notes. Brilliant! I swear, Apple and their bad (technological, not business) decisions...
