    Escher</strong><hr></blockquote>May I refer you to this "little" thread of mine <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=11&t=000164&p=4"; target="_blank">http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=11&t=000164&p=4</a>; . Check out Table 10

    "Little camera" ---&gt; just a turn of phrase, and not really referring to its size.

    Bis spaeter dann... Ciao.

    Thanks for the Tip, TI, I tried in my office today : it worked fine. Funny to think that high end eloctronics stuff like digital camera, still need old good trick to work properly.

    I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Canon G2 tomorrow (Friday the 13th!). After looking at various 4 MegaPixel cameras I liked it the best. It also gets more favorable reviews on various sites then any other camera in its price class ($700). It started out at $999, dropped to $799 earlier this year and is now generally available for $699. Certainly a new model will be coming out eventually, but it has all the features I'd ever want. It isn't too small - small cameras are definately hard to hold and can give fuzzy pictures. I like a little heft in a camera. Anyway, I'll post my reaction after using it and iPhoto (both for the first time).

    Just make sure that the handkerchief is clean, Powerdoc

    It will make holding the camera easier/more comfortable, especially if you wish to look down onto the folded out screen, will protect your lens should you ever knock it against something, and you will be able to put a filter on it, which is a must really.

    Oh, and you will of course *not* need a handkerchief for taking flash pictures, like Powerdoc has to

    I guess I can now claim to have seen The Installer. You lucky bastard made it to Pogue's London appearance (I presume, I doubt he made it to Zermatt). The conversation in your private test area is fascinating. Life must be good commuting between London and Zermatt. I have to look into early retirement. But before that I need to stop rambling.

    I splurged and bought a very expensive D60. 6.3Megapixels :cool:

    [practically screaming]

    It is a AWESOME camera!

    [/practically screaming]

    My only complaint is the USB is sooo slow. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" /> But, I was also shocked by the support Canon has for their cameras. PhotoStitch can merge two or more photos together. <a href="http://www.ssba.com/lad/vacationweb/CAT/catisland.mov"; target="_blank">EXAMPLE</a> Remote capture can trigger a snapshot by pressing a button on your computer. And ImageBrowser is a good photo indexing application. (Much like iPhoto)

    So, my advice: Get a Canon camera. They are fun to use, and supported by great software.

    I maybe tired, but, alas, I am not re-tired.

    The Installer:

    Thanks for the info on the lenmate. Think I'll order one. Can you reccomend a carry case that holds all the stuff that comes with the camera that isn't too large (or overpriced)? Thanks again.

    I have a "Classic" compact CCS case, although I forget which model. The camera (with the LensMate on) fits in very tightly, but that is o.k. I paid about £15 in the U.K. which is not overpriced considering that it protects my investment very well. <a href="http://www.ccscentre.co.uk/"; target="_blank">http://www.ccscentre.co.uk/</a>;

    BTW I am in the process of putting together a little folder here with pics that I have taken with the G2 <a href="http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=237337"; target="_blank">http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=237337</a>;

    Buy a compact flash reader : it will be much faster.

    T.I.: I am as curious as ever to know what you do for a living, so that you are able to claim Zermatt as your second home.

    How funny. I didn't know that. I haven't spoken British English since I learned it in Gymnasium in Zurich.

    Ebby: I hope you bought a FireWire CF card reader. A USB CF card reader would not be worthy of a D60.

    The recent crop of relatively inexpensive DSLRs (Canon D60 and Nikon D100) are tempting, but I can't justify their price while I am still finishing up school and living on savings. By next year, I'll hopefully have a good job and will be able to afford the rumored Olydak (Kodak-Olympus) digital SLR, which will have its own system of smaller interchangeable lenses designed specifically for DSLR use (instead of recycled from film SLRs).

    BTW: Canon announced the new <a href="http://www.dpreview.com/news/0209/02091605canong3.asp"; target="_blank">PowerShot G3</a> (name sound familiar?) on Monday (Sept. 16). It looks pretty good and certainly features a faster lens than the Nikon Coolpix 5000 and 5700 (which would be tempting if it weren't for their slow-as-molasses lenses)

    I recommend the Sony S75. Just bought one this past week. Great camera! 3.3MP. Carl Zies lense. Manual Overide. Uses memory sticks, which show up as a drive is OS X when the camera is connected! Excelent picture quality. Rich color. Supposed to have one of the longest battey lifes of any digital camera as well. Reviews of this camera were good, and the camera guru at BEST BUY said it was his favorite along with the Canon C30.

    I wonder if Canon will ever update the Pro90is, or even if they still sell it?

    Anyway, courtesy of dpreview, there is a new 5.1MP image sensor out that is the same size as current 4MP sensors (they ar not as big as the 5MP sensors in Nikon's 5000/5700, Minola's Dimage7, Sony's DSC707)

    Anyway, this probably means that most of the 4MP camera bodies on the market right now will be updated to 5MP over the next couple of months. Though I wonder if they'll reveal any more detail? In any case, you'll probably be able to find decent discounts on 4MP models for this X-mas season.
