I miss the black finish, looked really good on the iPhone 5 (at least when new) this new silver-grey finish doesn't do it for me at all, in photos and videos anyway, maybe it'll be better in the metal? I do like the champagne gold version though. That's the one I'm going to get I think, with either the beige, brown or red leather case, haven't decided yet.

DED - Could you at least use iMovie to create a decent video i.e., edit the background sound out.

I'm getting the space gray. I'll probably get the green leather case as well. I wish they'd come up with something that showed of the colour and design of the phone a bit better though.

The 5c cases reportedly fit the 5s. Though I'm opting for a VAJA as I need a bit of screen protection from the other things in my pocket that one of the flip type cases provides. I've found the bunker total protection cases are just too heavy for EDC. Great for backpacking though.

I can see the colors being a big hit, much in line with all of iOS 7.

You might consider a piel frama case. A bit spendy like the vaja. I used one on my 3G and loved it. I will probably will get one for the 5s.

The gold version reminds me of Accuphase audio gear, which is very popular in Japan but not as much in the US. I bet they sell a ton of gold iPhones in Japan and China.

When the next generation iPhone comes out, I think these two-tone designs are going to look like something from the '70s--as if they don't already.

To me whats funny is people praising how beautiful iphone is... An how gold is so and o and grey so and do. How thin it is.
Then te buy a case and hide all the beauty for as long as they own the phone. And preserve the beauty or the next in line for the phone... Who will follow in the same footsteps.

Buy the phone and enjoy its formfactor and beauty as it was intended to be!

Gold 64 but I need to see a space grey in person. I could be swayed.
I never liked the shininess of the silver 5. On gold it doesn't bother me.

looking around for cases...kind of a new one, the tavik outer edge bumper red/black 2 tone.  totally exposes front and back.  anyone know of similar to this but with an even slimmer bumper?

Agreed! But the feeling of dropping and scratching your iphone is a pretty bad feeling. I know, I don't use cases and have dropped my orig. iPhone denting the button in the top right corner and dropping my 4 and scratching the front. I still rarely use a case for the reasons you state.

I once dropped my 4s and was able to grab it inches from the ground. Pure luck. My GF thought I was James Bond when she saw that. Sadly, that was along time ago.  :)

Ah, crud. I thought they kept the normal black, and space grey was just new, not a replacement. I wish they kept the black.

Didn't they make this whole deal about the glass pieces being precisely matched to the aluminum, now two of three aren't even the same color? Imo, the white is the only one that looks good now.

And the cases are ugly. But the 5C cases were ten times worse.

When the iPhone 5 came out, and there were absolutely positively NO cases available in the Apple Store for the first few weeks, I picked up a bumper at one of those stands outside the store. Yup... it appears that Sir Jony likes pastels(and there is no one to say no to him)... IMO eewww.

And yes - my 4S, no cover, in my pocket with keys etc, for two years... not a scratch. Its a rock, perfect size etc. IMO- It will go down as the pinnicle of build standard for durability, etc.

Im really debating to upgrade to 5S just for the concerns you mentioned. But I dont think they 'intentially' designed it to wear prematurely. Its a fall out of Sir Jony's thin and light mantra(and antenna gate).... but alas tech will be by passing the ol 4S... so choices to make .
And I have friends who had to replace their back on the 4/4S because they dropped their phone and the glass broke. I dropped my iPhone 5 (when it was caseless) and all I had were a couple nicks around the chamfered edges. Otherwise not a scratch.

I'm definitely buying a 5S and a new case as well!

I don't agree that this design is a failure or too fragile. It's the most beautiful phone ever made and the shine around the finger print sensor makes it even more luxurious and lust worthy!

    I can't wait :D

2 of 3? How are white and silver the same color? You do realize the original iPhone was aluminum with a large black plastic strip on the back.

I have mine in a clear silicon case so I can enjoy some of the beauty. Only thing that sucks is these cases start to yellow after a while.

I use a simple 'ultraslim' SENA case where the phone just slides in/out. The phone stays fully protected when not in use, and I get to touch/feel the real thing -- nothing more, nothing less -- when I need to actually use it.

There are two problems with those cases, however: (i) I've had to replace them once a year (since the stitching and the leather expand with regular use); (ii) The model with the hole for the lightning connector does not have a hole for the headphone jack, and vice versa.
