Apple stores across America and the world saw huge crowds this morning as eager customers prepared to pick up their new iPhones. Apple's flagship Fifth Avenue store, where customers began to line up earlier this month ? before the iPhone 5s and 5c were even announced ? boasted a snake-like queue on the pavement outside the store's landmark glass cube.

Even smaller Apple stores, like those in White Plains, New York and Indianapolis, Indiana saw dozens of customers queue up well before the opening countdown. Analysts have predicted that Apple could sell up to 8 million of the new devices on launch weekend.

    The stores are beautiful.

People? No. Waiting hours in line. WTF? The Apple brand is much more than that. Just order it online or chose a decent hour to pick it up. Seriously...

Maybe it's me that never owned an iPhone. I will study hard, work hard, and save a few bucks from time to time to a nice, 4.5" to 5" iPhone.

Why not getting an iPad mini and a feature phone?

Samsung could mimic everything to some extent except LOYAL customers, cult following and originality.

Your ads wont  mock the ones who wait for iPhones, Samsung!

Get the f*** out of this world.

The "Designed by Apple in California" ad says "Does it deserve to exist?"

I strongly feel Apple referred Samsung products here.

Is that a BBRY ad in the 2nd pic, on the window? Anyhoo, props to Apple, yet again. Truly amazing to see this. Don't know of any other product getting this much attention (< double meaning there)

Definitely the lowest stock I've seen in release day yet at 3rd party stores. Both Best buys only got 10 black for each carrier. One Walmart got none, the other got two black for sprint. Yes- two. And target- for both stores- the dumb 3rd party vendor hasn't even showed up to deliver product. On wait list, we'll see. 1smile.gif

This is the first year I've seen that you're basically going to have to go to a carrier or Apple store if you want one on release day.  Side note- there were no lines at ALL at any of the other stores (3rd party- Best buy, target, etc)- less than 10 people showed up.  Unfortunately, there weren't any phones.  lol

Why were consumers waiting for what is basically last year's model iPhone that still comes with a tiny display. Show me the innovation!

People want their iPhones TODAY, right NOW! I wouldn't ever wait in line but I can understand their desire for the latest and greatest iPhone (that happens to have a built-in motion tracking chip for health monitoring, a very functional fingerprint sensor, an awesome camera, and a new processor that is years ahead of its time)

Whoever got lucky and was able to buy 5s at apple store today, please download geek bench 64 bit app and post the results to their site. It is still showing ipad 4 as a top result with no records of 5s:

Define "innovation". It certainly does not include 5" screen - anyone can (& do) slap 5" screens on a phone. I say the A7 chip, M7 chip, Touch ID, and updated camera are all innovative.

The iPad mini is too big. The screen is too bad. It is much slower compared to new iPhones. The feature phone is too stupid.

A bigger iPhone would be perfect. Will be perfect.

So much for the unnamed sources citing no demand for the new iPhones.

To those of you who laugh at people waiting on line... let me say... don't criticize until you've actually tried it. Apple customers are some of the most awesome, educated, intelligent, kind people on the planet. They are artists, musicians, professionals, all types.

When you wait on one of these lines, you inevitably meet all kinds of wonderful people--young AND old--so if you have the time, the energy, and something to keep you occupied like a book on your iPad.... I dare you.. do it... wait on one of these lines just once... unless the weather is horrible, I can almost guarantee you will not regret it.

And, FYI, Apple is VERY good about traveling down the line to inform people who are toward the very back that they may not have a chance at getting their model due to the amount that are currently in stock.

I knew the 5S would be a success, it is very impressive. Not looking for a new phone myself at the moment, but will be in line for the A7 iPad.

Can’t catch a break, can you? Even when you clearly mark your posts, people still misread them. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
