Not to mention pretty! It's much more attractive than any of those Nokias, IMO.

It is pretty, isn't it? I hadn't noticed. Shut up before you even start, Jonathan.

Having done a little research, well, Googling around, it would appear it's perhaps an Australian expression. I used to work with a couple of Aussies, so I guess that's where I picked it up.
[quote]Boy you're up early, Belle. I've only read good things about Siemens phones in general. I'm not sure about the S55 in particular.

I know. It's criminal. I have to be up by 6AM to take some of my medication. I remember some good reviews of, hmm, was it the C35?
The S55 has all the features I'm most interested in, though I'd like to know if it has hands-free operation. It's so useful when you're working at your computer and can leave the phone on the desk while you talk (without the hassle of an earpiece).
[quote]What's the likelihood that it will sync with iCal/Address Book on a Mac via Bluetooth? As good as any other, I guess. As you say it uses SyncML. To be honest, without support for the same kind of range of manufacturers and models that the other iApps have, iSync is going to be a worthless piece of software, anyway. I'm hoping that the next release is going to surprise us all.
[quote]According to infoSync you'll have to wait (at least) until February 2003 for the S56, the S55's North American sibling.

Sigh. I know. That's okay, I guess. My 8290 can live on for a little longer. It's kind of like the situation we've been discussing in the sub-notebo... I mean Palm vs. PocketPC... thread: There aren't many phones around that have every feature I want. And it's not that I'm being demanding - I don't care about the cameras, or polyphonic ringtones, or that kind of thing. I just want GPRS, tri-band, Bluetooth, and hands-free in a phone about the size of my 8290. It's not that difficult, is it?

I was about to say - the 8290 feels a little sluggish sometimes, too. I can quite easily having it struggling to keep up with me, especially when fiddling around with SMS messages.
cool i was looking for some sites for customizing my T68i and i ran across Mobiledia.com. it looks new but they already have a ton of content, and not just backgrounds but screensavers and ring tones and themes.
there are already a couple sites like this but this is the best one i've seen so far.
In the near future (well, not so near in the tech world... by the summer) I will need to upgrade my phone.
I have three "wants" for this new phone:
>Bluetooth (built-in)
>GSM
>Polyphonic ring tones
It seems like I can find phones with combinations of two of the above but not all three. Does anyone know of any phones coming out by next sumer with all three?
I really like the T68i but it lacks polyphonic rings and I like the Moto T720 but it lacks Bluetooth!
Wow, wish I would have seen this thread a long time ago.
I cannot express how much I HATE the T68i. Worst UI of any phone I have ever used. VERY slow. Redundant features, everything takes 3-5 steps, everything! Headset sucks. Did I mention how bad the interface is? Sony/Ericsson has never been able to make a good phone...not before and not yet.
Nokia. By far the best UI of any phone on the market. Period.

Oh geez. Have you used this phone? The menus are a bit slower, but nothing to complain about. What are the redundant features? Everything is 3-5 steps? Well, locking the phone is 1. Turning on vibrate is 1. Phone book is one. Messages are 1. Recent calls are 1. In fact, looking through mine, there are very few things that are over 3 steps. The things that are 3-5 steps are there for a reason. Aka things you don't use much. Change the ringer is buried for a reason. And then changing the time is buried. Everything else is pretty handy. Plus there is a shortcuts menu where you can add anything to get to faster.
Headset sucks? T68i does not come with a headset.
Heh, yeah Nokia making anything but cheapo phones, that will be the day. Come on!! Nokia sucks! There is a reason why when phone companies give away a free phone, it's almost always a Nokia.
Been using it for about two months. Yes it comes with an earpiece which many people complain to me about hearing EVERYTHING that is around me. Tell me, do you really think it's necessary to have to go through about 5 steps to erase an SMS message telling you that you have a voice mail....even if you already listened to the voice mail? AT&T rep at my work: By far THE most complained about feature

It takes me 3 steps to erase the text message. Put an inbox shortcut in the My Shortcuts menu. But you don't even need to erase the message in the first place, so it's not something you need to do all the time. That's why it is buried. A very rarely used item should be buried.
It's worth clicking through the pictures. Does Nokia actually try out the keypad layouts for usability?!
Also, six phones - only one has Bluetooth. I realize that they span the entire price spectrum, but I thought cell phone manufacturers would be driving the Bluetooth bandwagon, not waiting to jump on board.
Apperently Nokia and Sega have struck a deal on a GBA-killer phone.
Sega will supply games on memorycards, and this NOKIA "N-Gage" will sport symbian series 60 (like the 7650), bluetooth (for peer-to-peer gaming), and support for online gaming via GPRS. There will be more products like this nokia says. More details at the official launch in February...
Frankly I think nintendo is shittin' their pants over this...
No they're not. Believe me. The Gameboy Advance has what, 100% of the market right now? How many kids do you think will buy that Nokia unit, compared to how many kids will get, or already have, a GBA? It's a phone, so that automatically rules out a huge percentage of the market that the GBA already owns. And let's not even talk about cost...
well, i could be wrong... but there are several things. firstly the size comparison picture is edited. I'm not talking about the "open" phone, everyone can see that its a different picture. But the color difference in the shadows of the first two leads me to think that they were not photographed next to each other. Secondly, If you've handled the 7650 you know its big. With the size comparison from the first picture, the size of the thumbs in the second pict just seems waaay to big.
And thirdly, the flatness off the bach of the "screen" part seems a bit strange...

But this was a long time ago. It looks really sweet, but there is still the mac-testing...
HEY SIEMENS! send me one, and I'll test it for you for free!!! the NOKIAs TOO!!!
