iPhone owners report of iMessage failures with iOS 7, simple procedure may be temporary fix

I solved it by logging out of iMessage on affected devices, and logging back in. It's more than temporary, it seems a permanent fix.

    To logout:

    Settings -> Messages -> Send & Receive

Tap on Apple ID: [your Apple ID]

Choose logout. Then log back in.

It will reactivate your iMessage account, and *I think* issue a new token (iOS 7 token?) that should solve send/receive errors.

I was having this problem and assumed it was service related.  I turned on Airplane Mode, then turned it off to reset connections.  Haven't had the problem since.

iTunes App on My wife's 4s crashes upon opening. Reboot fixed the iMessage problem on my 5, but didn't fix her iTunes.

I "force quit" Messages, then rebooted my phone.  That cleared it up for me.

I had a problem with both iMessage and SMS. I reset the network settings, turned iMessage off and on, and then made sure the "send as SMS when iMessage is not available" option was turned on. No problems now.

The only iMessage error I keep getting is that it keeps letting my wife send me messages... I hate that!!!  Oh wait.. can she read this?? D'oh!

Just Kidding.  I had a message from her yesterday and when i went to reply, there was no way to bring up the keypad.  So I hit the back button thingy to go back to the list of messages, and I couldn't pick any of them to open.  Tried Siri, but it wouldn't come up.  Had to do a hard reboot.  It all seems fine now, but still, think this is a problem needing solving.

this is an iPhone 5 with the ios 7.0.2 update.

    Have a fun day everyone.

    Sam

I've seen this a lot the past few days, where a message to be delivered gets "stuck", as though there isn't a timeout setting or something.  Rebooting the phone does seem to fix the problem, but it's such a Microsoftian solution.

Also (and I may just be being daft today), did we lose the ability to delete individual texts in iOS7 Messages?

I have this issue on my iPhone 4.  A reboot temporarily fixes the problem for me but reoccurs about once a day so far.

Don't worry, I'm sure a fix is on its way.

Also, double tap a message, hit "more" and it will allow you to select individual messages to delete.

Thanks, iaeen!  I knew I had to be missing something!  I delete texts so infrequently, but lately I've had a few undelivered iMessage texts that lost their context after not being sent for hours (e.g. "I'm on my way") and, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to get rid of them!

I cannot activate my iMessage at all!
My iTunes password works perfectly for iTunes and my other devices, but when I sign in for iMessage,it says "could not sign in,check network connection and try later"
    It's always this message,whenever I have wifi or 3G.
I tried Restore Network, rebooted the phone (it's an 4S),nothing works.
No one can help me,and before I restore or even erase my phone,I hope someone could help me.
    Thank you.

Topical but off topic. I've NEVER had a problem in the past but since updating to iOS7 I cannot consistently connect my iPhone5 via wifi, and even when I do, there is a connection but no data throughput. I've tried all of the "try this" suggestions and I've even done a clean install to no avail. Any suggestions?

Reset your network settings only reboot the phone and renter your wifi id and password. that has always fixed it for me.  I had similar problems to what you describe and this helped.

Bleurg. Followed the procedure, now getting an 'error occurred upon activation' message when I try & reactivate iMessage.

    Wondrous.

What with this & the terrible calendar design, I have found ios7 to be dung.

I am the apple guru in my circle. My moms iphone 5 had trouble initially and I found this fix and it worked perfectly. A friend is having trouble with iMessage due to problems with activation. It looks like she will have to wipe the phone and start over. I have wondered about the agility to select a whole page by highlighting between paragraphs like in iOS 6 but it doesn't work. I wonder if it's a bug or an omission?

"Support Communities forum members may have discovered a solution, however. Users are finding success with the following procedure: disable iMessage in Settings -> Messages, reset the iPhone's Network Settings under Settings -> General -> Reset, then reenable iMessage. The method was also reported to be successful by MacRumors on Monday."

    Worked. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

According to the Apple Geniuses, there is no issue with wifi connectivity. I guess they don't read their own support boards. I still can't connect to my home router while the 4 other iPhone 4S owners in the house had no problem whatsoever after updating to iOS 7.

I do not think that this affects a "fraction of users" (as Apple acknowledged the problem)

Thanks for the trick, until a true fix is available though, I'd continue manually backing up my text messages to avoid loosing data as described here: http://www.copytrans.net/support/backup-iphone-sms-text-messages/

Using regular SMS messages is another solution to be 100% sure whether you sent your text or not.
