    Jonathan! Naughty naughty!

    9. Be descriptive with the title of new threads. Do not start a thread called "Guess what..." and then use the text portion of the post to explain, give your post a headline. This courtesy is especially appreciated in the more highly trafficked forums.

Is this to be used in a new PDA?

    I don't get it. It's just a 802.11b chipset. What's the big deal?

Apple is working on a wireless iPod that will work with Airport/Rendezvous. It will automatically sync up with other computers and devices and stream music off them. Since it only streams music rather than transfering the files they avoid problems with the RIAA. So are you saying it will use one of these StrongARM chips? Is this what this article is about? Maybe I am reading the wrong thing.

Descriptive titles? What about descriptive posts? I have no idea what's going on. Who cares about AMD strongarm and what's it mean to me?

    1) ARM is probably the king of the embedded chip space. It's more of a reference platform than a particular line of processors, though. Newtons used StrongARM processors. Palm is migrating to ARM processors (from Mot's 68K-derived DragonBall) now as well.

    2) AirPort chews batteries.

So what we have here is a fairly efficient processor that builds wireless networking into an extremely popular, powerful embedded/handheld platform that Apple has extensive experience with.

It's a great little chip to power a Digital Hub-savvy Apple gadget, in short. Maybe it will appear in Apple's answer to the MS tablet (which might not be a tablet itself)? Or something else?

I'm so divided. Should I keep this here since it's Future Hardware, or should I move it to the Digital Hub? Decisions, decisions.

An interesting read, to say the least.

It should probably go in Digital Hub, now that one Administrator has posted it in the wrong forum with a guideline-violating title, and the other Admin, along with two Moderators, have posted in it without moving it.

I thought I should post here because I'm feeling left out. Also, posting off-topic adds to the felony count amongst mods and admins.

All we need is an inappropriate "IBL" from that liability, groverat...

    Leadership by example...?

Anyways, why the 'January...' reference? Just a guess, since AMD says they're only now being to sample this new chip?

My b-day's in Feb, so here's to expectations...

    Amorph,

I'm not sure I follow... Given what you say about the ARM palm et-al (oh yea iPod too) then why would this be good news?

AMD doesn't own the ARM (Intel does) and uless this AMD chip is an 'arm clone+wifi' then Palm and Apple wouldn't move to it would they? If Palm already invested in the move to ARM and Apple is clearly invested with the iPod a move to something new would be a longshot.

(lemme read that article again... maybe I'm missing something)

On a slightly more serious note, perhaps this is the source of the "Apple Goes With AMD" rumors? Maybe Apple really IS going with AMD, just not for desktop processors?

It would tie up a few loose ends, anyway. People hear "Apple using AMD processors" and immediately assume it is for their desktops. Lots of other devices use processors, too.
