The most interesting bit is the graphics hardware, other than that it looks like the usual speedbumped Quicksilver stuff.

The Radeon card is the only thing i would not been able to guess. Seems a bit strange, dunno..

The lowend model is total crap. The highend iMac dumps on it really.

Thats a lowend radeon. I think a GeForce 2 MX is a bit more powerful.

The HD is smaller and no SD. WTF is that?

The GeForce 4 in the other models is really sweet, if true.

Ok - the least capable tower has the same processor as the upper level imac (apparently stripped of its L3 cache also), no superdrive, no lcd, but it does have a faster (but smaller) hard drive, perhaps a better graphics card, and expansion capability.

    This is a joke, right?

Did it ever occur to anyone thatthe low end Power Mac might be less than the upper end iMac?

    As in $500 less?

seems like Apple is waiting for Nvidia to announce the Geforce4 before they release the towers.

    That's on February, 5th I think...

Ok, I forgot that the imac would have the superdrive and the tower would have only CD-RW. If one could buy such a tower (with LCD) for the same price (perhaps cheaper), and trade off design, superdrive and larger HD for faster HD, CD-RW, better graphics card, and expandability, I suspect the lower end tower would cannibilize (sp?) imac sales.

    We shall see.

They most likely got the Geforce 4 idea from reading my posts. heh, or nVidia press releases, at least. It actually makes sense in a way. nVidia will be releasing no fewer than 5 Geforce 4 variants! With three MX versions and two Ti versions, it looks like they're going to try to increase their marketshare by releasing simultaneous budget and performance models based on the same chip. In one swoop they could squeeze the low-end makers and cut costs too. If a high performance budget line takes off, then they don't need to maintain 3 seperate lines (2,3,4) just 2 initially. (2MX and 4) 3 dies as 4MX will probably offer similar performance to 3Ti. And eventually, as production ramps up, 2MX dissapears too (for all but laptop use).

Geforce 3 has gotten very fast through the use of some very expensive memory, bus, and core speed bumps. Geforce 4 was designed to accomplish the same/better performance with better design (and thus be cheaper to produce)

This is only being discussed in a thread that is now 3 pages long <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=001098"; target="_blank">here.

But all of this should be old news to you since you are certain that the G5 is coming this week.
