First consumer iPad Air unboxing video hits the web hours after release

Apple has already begun rolling out its latest iPad offering, the iPad Air, in countries around the world, and the first of what are likely to be many videos starring the tablet has hit the Web.

Due to its proximity to the International Date Line, Australia is one of the first countries to have gained access to the iPad Air, and AppleInsider collaborator Ben Pasternak is back with more high-quality videos showing off the new tablet.

In addition to the unboxing, Pasternak also uploaded his experience as one of the first line waiters for the new Air.

Apple's iPad Air netted stellar reviews from journalists this week, who lauded the device's thin-and-light form factor, impressive performance and impressive battery life. Despite having a smaller battery pack, the tablet is able to last some ten hours on a single charge thanks to the efficient A7 system on a chip and M7 motion coprocessor.

The iPad Air will hit store shelves on Friday, with Apple Stores opening at 8 a.m. local time for the event. Unlike the iPhone 5s launch, Apple is offering in-store pickup for the new tablets, meaning customers will likely be able to place orders in the U.S. from 12:01 Pacific.

This is the soft porn of unboxing videos. I prefer something less fluffy.

PS: If that's soft core what does that make iFixit's teardowns? Snuff?

Could agree more. iOS 7 is a UX disaster.

That's your opinion. Works fine for me and looks a helluva lot better than the Microsoft Bob version that was iOS 1-6.

If you like change for the sake of change, it works just fine.  I find it more difficult to read quickly and that reminders is a little bit unstable, which is too bad because I have hundreds of reminders.  On the other hand, I respect your opinion.

If Apple were truly concerned about the opinion of the users, however, it would allow us to give feedback about iOS7 directly.  But I suspect that under Mr. Ive they would really prefer not to know.

Got mine. Have to admit that it's actually heavier than you would think by looking at it (and despite the hype) but nice upgrade from my 2 anyway.

Just asking why videos on Ai are only showing 80% of the width?

Not complaining! Really like Ai! :)

Ironically the plug doesn't have a ground pin because the charger is an insulated device. So yes could have been made smaller. Which would have led to a thinner box more in keeping with the 'Air' mantra.

Because Apple cared about user feedback under Jobs and Forstall? Just curious between 2007-2012, when users were allowed to give direct feedback about iOS?

    There are personal anecdotes.

    And then there's this:

Wait for the usual round of iPhone 5s (running iOS 7) consumer satisfaction reports. Guess where it'll be?  Hint:  see last year's reports, and the year before that, and before that, and before that . . .

For Rogifan:  That is a point well taken.  They did not invite direct comment about iOS.  That could be because most people saw continual, incremental approval...or not.  However I believe that it would certainly be a great idea to be able to give feedback about both iOS and about OSX (and future iterations).

Sure, no one complained about how stale iOS was getting of basic convince settings not being present.
