As part of a two-day sale slated to kick off on Friday, Best Buy is offering special pricing on select MacBooks, including the 13-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro and all MacBook Air models.

MacBook Pro

According to CNET, the big box retailer is taking $250 off Apple's non-Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro kitted with 8GB of RAM, and $100 off all MacBook Airs. In addition, those looking to upgrade can trade in their existing machine for a guaranteed $75, or up to $100 if the computer is in good condition. Sale prices are available at Best Buy's online and retail stores.

Readers should note, however, that Best Buy charges sales tax on all orders. MacMall -- which only charges sales tax in CA, IL, NY, TN, MN, GA, NC, and WI -- offers similar pricing to AppleInsider readers use the links in our Price Guides to activate the Promo Code field and then apply promo code APPLEINSIDER02. That coupon knocks another 3% off MacMall's already reduced pricing, and when combined with the tax savings, will offer lower net pricing for most readers.

Buying with AppleCare Protection

Similarly, readers who want to purchase their new Mac with a 3-Year AppleCare Protection Plan should check out our Mac + AppleCare price guide (also below), which highlights exclusive bundle pricing from top Apple Authorized Resellers like B&H Photo. When using the links in that price guide, readers instantly saved between $70 and $105 on AppleCare and B&H only charges sales tax on orders billed to its home state of New York.

Apple is pushing toward an all-Retina lineup, and recently discontinued the 15-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro when it announced new models featuring Intel's Haswell CPUs and Iris integrated graphics.

The existing 13-inch MacBook Pro is the sole model in Apple's portable lineup to boast a disk drive, though the company offers an external SuperDrive for those who rely on CD or DVD media.

It should be noted that Apple lowered its price point for the entry-level 13-inch Retina Pro, with the computer starting at $1,299. By comparison, the 13-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro starts at only $100 less, but comes with more storage albeit in the form of a slower HDD.

Best Buy's sale starts on Friday and ends on Saturday, with special pricing available in-store.

Rats. I was excited for a moment. I'm taking back my 13" tomorrow to trade up to the 512GB model because I'm sick of running out of space. Oh well, no discounts for me.

Is BB losing money on these or is Apple giving a kickback to cover the sale?

$100 for a MBP trade-in? You might as well just give it to a stranger.

Have you considered a thumb drive? I just wonder why flash drives are all on USB, and none(or rare) are on thunderbolt.
