okay, i'll be the one to ask it... when the hell is this thing going to be complete?!? feels like it's been in public beta forever.

it can't be that hard to get it working. so it leads me to believe that they will only release the final when there is a GREAT DEVICE capable of working well with it (like an advanced ipod...).

anyone here a developer and can give us an idea? i gotta think it'll be done by macworld...

This was discussed in another thread recently I think. I think it has been rumoured to be comming out at MWSF.

I think Apple is delaying it's release of a final version of iSync until Apple can get its own implementation of Palm Synchronization working. Right now it is way to difficult to set up a Palm device to sync with iSync. Since Palm Pilots are what the majority of people want to synchronize with their Macs the current situation is unacceptable.

I'm sure Apple refuses to pay licensing fees to Palm so they are probably haxoring their own implementation. Hopefully MWSF will bear the results of Apple's efforts.

It took Microsoft 3 YEARS to get ActiveSync to work 90% of the way correctly with its own WinCE/Outlook software. And you expect Apple to have it ready in 4 months with its own as well as third party software?

I'm amazed how well it works so far.

    I am not really concerned.

I am more concerned that Apple is slow in enhancing the current iApps and developing better ones.

And of course the speed issue.

What i dont understand is why it only syncs calenders and such over .Mac, but not directly between computers. I dont have a .Mac account, but I want to sync some folders across two computers. Currently i use File Syncronization, but going by its name shouldn't "iSync" do the same?

    ... and there's NO BLOODY P800 COMPATIBILITY.

I'm going to try it anyway.

And in the P800 / T68i feature list, there's "remote sync." What the hell is this for, if not for something like .Mac? Why aren't they using it?

    Yes, I'm happy it's 1.0 but grrrrrrrrr.

    Moaning Harald.

Edit: iSync can't find the P800. I'm going a-hacking to see if I can add the letters P800 to some plist somewhere. I mean, it's obvious this ain't being updated at MW this close so it's a long bloody wait. Grrrr. Grrrr. GRRRRRRRRRRR.

Don't have .Mac do you? The iCal backup via iSync works incredible well...

    Yes I have .Mac.

Did I use iSync to backup my data? No.

Have I learned my lesson? Not really, because even the public beta didn't wipe me out so completely.

What I've learned is to treat iSync with disdain and trust its reliability in the same way to trust a revolver with five empty chambers pointed at my skull.

I expected a great deal more from Apple's software team. You know in iTunes when you 'Clear' a song from the library it first asks for confirmation and then asks whether it should go ahead and delete the song file? That kind of caution and attention is what I expect.

One would think at least one programmer would be working on iSync and think, "Hey, maybe we should offer to backup the data (to anywhere, .Mac or the hard drive) before proceeding..."

can anyone confirm that i can now sync only the calendars i choose using isync 1.0? the public beta did *everything* and that was seriously annoying...

(there is a screenshot on the apple site but it only shows phone syncing)

    also...

ical is now seriously fast. i'm pleased.

i can't believe there isn't at least some support for nokia bluetooth phones
