Yeah I was thinking about that. It can be interpreted BOTh ways... But the truth is that Apple is a lot better at keeping a secret: In a recent SEC filing, Apple was forced to report that it had cut jobs throughout the company in the most recent quarter, and some of the cuts reportedly came from the Mac OS X team. Job cuts at companies such as Gateway and Toshiba make headlines, but how come we never hear about this stuff from the Charles Haddads and Walter Mossbergs of the world?"
I would be surprised if Apple manages to keep 2.5 % marketshare w.out a new CPU this year.. To keep ~2.5 % marketshare ( and assuming no growth in the PC sector this year), Apple needs to sell about 810K boxes/Q on average. Yes, it would be possible IF Apple had the G5. But they dont..
Im expecting to see Apollo this summer and maybe G5 early next year. Apple HAD to use a G4 in the iMac, because Jobs knows they are rapidly looing the high-end war anyway.. I dont think Apple ever sold as few Powermacs as they did in the last Q. ( 215K units? ) Q2 is in general a slow selling season, so expect even fewer Powermacs to be sold.
Well the fact is if IBM bid for Apple and Apple shareholders accept that offer Steve has no say. There is no reason why IBM would not retain his services.
