Where are the New Display Rumors?

Posted:
in Future Apple Hardware edited January 2014
First I hate when people who have nothing real to say start a thread, so I apologize in advance.

BUT...prior to MWSF a revised LCD line-up showed up on most people's prediction list alongside some sort of bumped G4s. And ever since we've had almost daily rumors about what/where/when we might yet see these towers. The Apple site leaked this...MacUser says that...on and on...but display rumors? Nothing. Nada. Crickets.

Should I assume that, while we agree it's possible for Apple to 'quietly' update the Power Macs, we don't think that could happen with displays? So, must we wait until a show/event?

I mean, I'm sure that tomorrow SpyMac or some other webtraffic-whore will predict that on Feb. 4 Steve Jobs will poke his head out of his office and see his shadow we'll have six more weeks of G4s or whatever and we'll all argue about it until they actually arrive. But, while you guys are sifting through alt.mac.grassy.knoll or where ever it is you get this stuff, could you please look for info on forthcoming displays. That stupid 'Crystal Clear' promo has to be an attempt to clear the channels of displays, right? RIGHT? Jeez-Louise could somebody at least make up a semi-credible display rumor? That might help tide me 'til Seybold/Tokoyo/WWDC/whatever, instead of just sitting here hunched over my iBook, rocking back and forth like Rainman mumbling "15 minutes to MacWorld" over and over again.

Hmm. The promotion is still in effect, true. Instead of saying that the displays will be updated/revised soon, I think that is just a better way of advertising than simply lowering the prices. Think about it. Which sounds better:

SALE SALE SALE $1000 off the Cinema Display!

    or

    $1500 Cinema display

I wouldn't mind a bigger screen from Apple, although the 22-incher is enormous. I don't need a big screen, so I can't really comment on what graphic designers need.

The rebate is intended to make people buy the whole systems, not to clear display inventory./ As far as I know, Apple is still producing all three models.

    Let's see:

Apple will release new displays with industry leading resolutions like:

15.4" wide (Ti) LCD for desktop @ 1400x1080ish

    17" LCD @ 1600x1200

    22" LCD @ 1800x1280

Also, Ti PB will get the new above 15.4" LCD.

I guess there are no rumors on LCDs, because the only thing that's going to change with Apple's screens is the price.

We'll continue to see 15-17-22 for a while, maybe going to 17-18(19)-22(24) by the end of the year.

We may see a 19" CinemaDisplay, but the next revision of the displays will have to wait for the new PowerMac cases, so they match the new design, right?

well, except for your "wide" 15.4" (1400x1080 is actually more square than standard 4:3 ratio) I like the idea. Apple should be leading the industry in all respects if they're going to charge as much as they do for the LCD's. Bump the res up!

    Why have an 18" or a 19" LCD when there's already a 17"?

    That's like asking:

Why have a faster CPU if the one we have already is fast?

Why have 256MB RAM if we already have 128?

Why eat dinner when we already ate breakfast?

Why have Mac OS X, if we already have Mac OS 6.0.4?

Dude, that question is just so stupid.

if the 19" LCD was 1280x1024 there would be almost no market.

If there was a 1600x1024 wide 19" cinema LCD for $1499 they'd sell a truck load.

Here's one for the mongers.. Have you thought about an Apple branded high resoluton projector?

Ahhh, Display Rumors. As provocative as they are pointless! Wonderful, good-natured civil chicanery that greases the wheels of society like 'you really look like you're losing weight' and 'don't worry, it happens to a lot of men.'

    Thanks guys, you're the best.

    Why are they're 19" CRT's when there are 17"? Perhaps becuase some people need more then 17" & can't afford 21" or 22" ...

    Why give people options right .... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

I've never understood peoples need for super high res. This res seems perfect for me. Actually part of the reason I don't want to high of a res is for gaming ... I'd have to pickup one of those GF4 cards to push a resolution of 1600x1024 ...
