I've been thinking that if Apple is making an iPad that large, that they'll have to add some sort of split screen multi-tasking to iOS8...
With all that screen real estate you know that you'll want a second or third app window open.
I'd rather have a multi-finger flick to scatter all the open apps-windows on the screen for a tap selection. That screen size isn't all that large compared to desktop screens and my 22" is just about the minimum I like for multiple windows, never just on my Macbook 15" screen alone for instance, so my current multi-window setup is the big screen "alongside" my MacBook Pro screen...
Oh they might do it, but I'd find the screen cramped I expect.
Really? Because they don't even have a "split screen" feature on the 27" iMac. What makes you think they would put it on a 12.9" screen?
You can use OS X in many different "splits" since it's a windowed OS.
Here are some dimensions and sizes for comparisons (but switch Height and Weight since we're talking about a device mainly used in portrait mode):
Notice the 12.9" 4:3 display nearly has 2x the display area of the iPad Air and nearly 3x that of the iPad Mini. I don't think for a minute that if this is even reasonable that the current iPad UI would work with such large buttons which means developers would need to catch up with UI specific apps which would also be a good time to offer something other than the 4:3 aspect ratio, which I think is unweildy at that size. It's even slightly larger than the 13" MBP's display area.
Really? Because they don't even have a "split screen" feature on the 27" iMac. What makes you think they would put it on a 12.9" screen?
Let's see, open up one program in one window covering the left half of your 27" screen. Then open up some other program in a second window covering the right half of your 27" screen. Viola, Split Screen!
So how about multi-tasking with resizeable windows in iOS8? So you can jump side to side from one app to another instead of double hitting the Home button to toggle between open apps. Or watching Netfilx while keeping twitter or facebook open to watch the feeds...
I was so reluctant to get ipad mini and decided to stick on my current 9.7". With a 12.9" that is close to 13" I bet to myself that I could be more possible to get one.
Why are people still doing this? You’ve had four finger gestures since iOS 4. That’s how you move between apps.
Muscle memory? Preference?
The four finger swipe up to the multi-tasking tray is not the more elegant of gestures, and the horizontal swipe only takes you through an app at a time, so isn't suitable for every app switch. May that's how you move between apps, but it still isn't ideal.

Sure you can physically do it. You think those people who casually play with their phone while paying half-attention to a TV show are operating in a state of paradox? I'm perfectly capable of watching a twitter feed (or an iMessage chat, or whatever) and a TV show at the same time, so would appreciate multi-app options. Your preference isn't the only preference.
Whatever. You spout such a load of hyper opinionated nonsense with no basis in the real world. Tray/screen who cares, it's the same awkward gesture. And if I want to pay partial attention to a TV show while browsing tweets then that's my perogative, I really couldn't give a damn if you want to try and paint that as an invalid use case. Half attention still makes your claim of physical impossibility ridiculous.
Completely different means of interaction, which is the point.
Launched in exactly the same way, by a four finger swipe, or by doubly clicking the home button. Both entirely valid, one consistent across all iOS devices, and the other an uncomfortable movement by many people's estimation. That is the point, the gesture. As is often the case you're flailing around so much that I have no idea what your point is any more.

I don't consider myself especially clever, but I can definitely manage to pay process two different streams of information at the same time without hemorrhaging. Weird world you live in where focus can only ever be given to one thing in its entirely.
You're right that Apple doesn't have to give me anything, but I fail to see how anyone would give a damn about such a banal point. they don't have to give anyone here anything, but we can still talk about what we want.

Sounds like a completely different way to me.

Right, and when your hand is already on the screen, it’s easier to, you know, stay there.

Well, read it and you’ll get it. You don’t seem to know what you’re saying, much less what I am.

Read a book while watching a movie. Then immediately tell someone details of the secondary plot of each.

Actual it's been proven your mind can't do two things well at once. I tried listening to podcasts and reading and your mind tunes out one of them.
Right, and when your hand is already on the screen, it’s easier to, you know, stay there.
The iOS6 tray and the iOS7 tray are launched in the exact same way jackass, you're the one who tried to pass the point over by saying that I was still using iOS6, when actually I just used the old shorthand for the multi-tasking tray.
1. Who says your hand is already on the screen? Most of the time when I'm using my iPad my hands are off the screen.
2. A vertical move with four fingers extering pressure is not a comfortable gesture.
The point is that double pressing the home button may well be more familiar (since it's the only gesture on the iPhone), and it's no an uncomfortable gesture (it may be a quicker/more convenient one for some people). So your implication that it's the proper way to do it is bogus.

And as I said, paying half-attention. If an ad break comes up on the TV station I'm watching on my iPad it's not going to rot my brain to open up an email side-panel and take care of some replies while the commercials roll past. I can pay enough attention to do both. And some shows I care more about hearing than watching, so I can easily read something else while listening to them, just like how I manage to walk and navigate the world with a podcast on.
Seriously, brain damaging? And you're the one who throws around accusations of other people spreading FUD. Total overblown BS, as usual.

Nope, I know that “multitasking” doesn’t do your mind any favors. I’d rather have the breathing room for my one task.

2014 - Seems like Year of Bigger Screen products.

You cannot physically do this anyway, so I don’t think it’s really that important to anyone.
Smart move on your part to adhere to what you have.

Still on iOS 6, huh?
…paying half-attention…
Thanks for proving my point.
