OK, stop laughing you jealous bastards.

Just a warning: don't overfill yours if you have the first release firmware with pictures / videos / etc. Don't ignore the "make some room" messages.

It's back tomorrow. And the firmware is uh somewhat different ;-)

Weren't you the guy who posted a few weeks ago that you had inside info about what the next version of the p800 would be and then never told us

There seem to be a fair amount of people who have P800's that lock-up completely. I still want one, but the rate of failure appears to be quite high.

And, yeah, where's the rest of the info on the P800 replacement?

No sympathy from me on your P800 problem until you cough up the info!

Timescale? I don't know, the guys building it don't even know. The P800 replaced an Ericsson model codenamed "Pamela," the original "Communicator" that NEVER came out. I played with it ... it was big and did less then the P800. But that was two years ago. The gap between the R380 and P800 was -- what -- 3 years? Technicals, politics and your company going titsup.com can all severely delay products.

[speculation] It won't be 3 years, but it will be AT LEAST a year for certain I'd say [/speculation] ... but all I know is what they're building.

It's kick ARSE. And funnily enough, it also KICKS arse.

It will "make the P800 look like something from the stone age." If Apple aren't building anything with GSM or 3G capability noone, but NOONE, will be buying iPods when it reaches you.

Edit: That bug is now squashed (at least) and the P800 remains the most stunning device on the market. As to the future, think what it can do already (colour video, camera, MP3 AND MP4 ie AAC audio, all that mobile stuff) and how much it costs compared to a top of the range iPod. Imagine what it could do with small high-density storage. Now stop drooling. And no, I'm not going to share any of the tiny amount of specifics I know.

Okay-- I've waited this long for the P800, I guess I can wait another few years for its replacement. At least this is saving me a lot of money.

Harald: Did the firmware upgrade improve compatibility with iSync/Mac by any chance? We've been assuming that Apple was to blame for the P800-Mac incompatibility, but maybe SE could do something about it too.

I'm curious to see how long it will take for the P800 to hit US shores in quantity, i.e. via service providers/carriers instead of import shops.

Memory Stick Pro will store gigabytes of info by the time the successor to the P800 comes out...so I would think they would just use some form of that...

Well I would still like some more info but... since you did some repenting...i will remove one needle from your voodoo doll

Escher, I've still not got it in my hands so I'm not certain. But I don't think anything will be improved. It turns out iSync DOESN'T use SyncML to sync with eg T68x ... it uses IrMC over Bluetooth. The P800 can't do this. It sees it as old school.

So it's not Apple or SE's fault but uh Bluetooth's. OK, it's Sony Ericsson's fault. I wouldn't expect this for ages.

You CAN use SyncML over the air ... there's no reason .Mac could not do this already I wouldn't say.

    Pilmour, no I didn't.

Producer, I'd say that would make sense.

(edit -- changed a technical innacuracy)

Hopefully the successor will also have an OLED display and be thinner...it seems a bit thick through the pics is that true in person? I hope is is available soon in the U.S. for a reasonable price... my palm IIIx really needs to retire

I would also want a minimum 2meg pixel camera from the successor which should be reasonable by next year...

Oh and any news on GPS? I thing I saw some company offering something for the P800 but can't remember...I doubt it will be as good GPS as the dedicated Palm device....but GPS with talking directions from my phone or palm

It's thicker then a T68 for sure. But it goes in my jacket pocket and even trouser pocket ... just think, you won't be carrying your Palm anymore too! Mine replaced my Palm V. Boy did it every replace my Palm V.

Those apps are coming through thick and fast now ... Doom, Quake (yawn) but MAME (now you're talking), VNC (which I WILL use) and all sorts of other stuff ...

Harald: Will they showcase the P800's successir at CeBIT this March?

How come iSync does not use SyncML? But I think that it really is SE's fault - where is the commitment promissed at MWNY last year?

It is really sad that even the final version of iSync supports SE phones only.

I'm beta testing a piece of software that allows one to control the mouse from the T68 over BT. It also directly controls the DVD player and iTunes. I mentioned to the developer that I knew of somebody with a P800 and he'd like to know if you're interested in testing.

Oh yes, it's been back with me for a few days now. And it's lovelier then ever.

I'm just wrestling with a way to sync the calendar with the Mac (like everyone else). I've got a SyncML account with a company called office2go which lets me sync my preciousssss over-the-air with either Palm or Outlook. For the PC. I (of course) use iCal and Virtual PC. And I've not found a way of doing it yet.

Why Apple do not enable sync with portable devices using SyncML, which is absolutely within their reach as they're running a networked SyncML server (.Mac <--> iCal) is absolutely beyond me. Client side gubbins is taken care of on portable devices, and the standard is THERE because it Just Works.

Legendary Apple ease of use. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrind.

I like the look of this phone and have put off buying either the Treo or th T68i. However, what possible use is it if it can't sync with either Entourage, mail or Address book?

It look like a phone with tons of potential, but currently no use at all.

Address Book: it CAN sync with this, by dragging entries to Bluetooth File Exchange.

Entourage: Calendar entries can be transferred to the P800 in the same way.

Mail: Mail won't sync with ANYTHING as far as I'm aware!

    iCal: Nup. Nope. Nay. Nuttn.

Dragging entries to BT exchange is NOT syncing. Without this happening it is useless. None of us have time to muck around like that. That is why we want BT to do it all automatically.
