W/ all the new random stuff from Apple, think a New / upgraded iPod is likely soon?
Because personally I have no clue, and want an iPod extremely bad but keep telling myself to wait, wait, and wait, untill aplle releases a new upgrade or price drop or all new iPod type device.
There's nothing worst than buying one, then having Apple release a new one the next day, or week, or even month.

all signs point to new iPods soon...I'm waiting
It will be twice as thick but incorporate the new 21 inch Cinema display...
Steve: "Now this little beauty won't fall out of your pocket!..."
But aren't they awesome machines any way? I'm loving my new TiBook.
As for iPods, I expect to see them upgraded shortly with the 5 GB model being dropped (as Apple apparently can't get thd drives).

Why cant they get 5GB drives? News to me...
As for myself, Im in the exact same position. I asked for an IpOD for Christmas but told them that I would tell them when to get it for me since I want to have the new version... whatever it will be.
come on already Apple... you got another IpOD waiting to be bought rrright here...
Well the 5 GB iPod hasn't been on sale from Apple's website for quite some time now (since a week after Christmas, I believe).
Not only that, but retail stores don't seem to have them either. I see 10 and 20 GB iPods but no 5 GB iPods.
I was at an Apple Store today buying some DVD-Rs for my TiBook and thought about picking up an iPod but there were no 5 GB models available.
So while I'm not sure if Apple is having a hard time getting the drives, it makes logical sense since Apple hasn't been able to get a 5 GB iPod out the door this year.
Of course, how am I going to sync a 40 GB iPod with iTunes on a 40 GB HD on my comp... I'll have to think of a way...

the only trouble i have with my 60gig music collection and my 20gig iPod is deciding which tracks make it to the iPod and which ones get excluded. the local HD and the iPod sizes don't have to match.
If they discontinue the 5gig they are retarded. What if someone isn't rich and just wants 5 gigs? WTF Apple.

According to Macwhispers the reason is that Toshiba has discontinued the 5 gig drive.
Lowest price shoudl be $199 for 10 gig. Maybe suprise of $149, but doubt it.
So just have some patience and check back end of Feb.

mm, yeah, i really think there is absolutely no way they'll be that cheap.. I think probably a 10 gig for 299.. POSSIBLY 249, but much lower than that just doesn't make much sense. the only time they cut price that much was the recent LCD blowout.
i am waiting on the ipod to take that next step in its evolution before i jump on the bandwagon. it's just plateaued (sp?) into a "bigger drive/cheaper models" philosophy of updating the line. plus, i find the screen unnecessarily tiny.
Meh. I just got a brand new 20 Gig iPod for roughly $200. I'm happy.
how?
