Hi I have a Canon ZR-50 DV video camera. Is there any way I can use it as a firewire webcam?

Yes. Download QuickTime Broadcaster and QuickTime Streaming Server and you host a live stream from your own computer. I don't have time to go into the details right now, but I've done it quite a few times.

I have that exact camera and after a bit of tweaking of Yahoo Messenger, it works fine as a web cam. Plug it in, turn it on and then fire up Yahoo.

How DOES Yahoo Messenger's webcam function work? I have friends who have cams and I can't see them worth a damm. Everytime I try I get an error message or that they are offline..when they aren't. Actually...I've had problems with Yahoo Messenger for a while. I have 2.5.1 and whenever I send a message it says my session is expired. Then when I quit it says it quit unexpectedly. I've been using Charla 1.6.3 in the meantime...but is this just me? I've tried trashing the whole thing, prefs and all, and it still refuses to work.

    (thinks) Umm...sorry about getting off topic like that...just had to vent <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

Well, I am not an expert at it but I did mess around with some preferences. Although I changed things like proxies and firewalls in the settings I had no idea what I was doing. It ended up working. I changed the DSL/Cable/Modem settings and ended up on DSL even though I don't have that. Each time I changed a setting I restarted Yahoo.

I also had the camera on and plugged in before I started Yahoo.

Oh! One more thing I remember... I think I had to be visible. I am usually invisible and I don't think I got it to work on that status.
