Does anyone think that maybe, just maybe, the next revision of the iPod may be more then just a price change and hard drive update?

Do you have anything specific in mind? I REALLY don't think we'll see it go to a color screen. A biult in tuner and mic (should) be a no-brainer. Combine that with a 40 GB drive and I might just upgrade...

not this revision. my gut and head agree that this revision will simply be slight price adjustment and change in capacity (i.e. 10, 20 & 40 GB). however, somethign dramatic does have to happen sooner or later for the ipod, since it can only go so far with its current form factor, display, ports, etc.

Hell Apple should make the HD Removeable in the iPod.

    Add an FM radio.

    and send me a free one for my suggestions. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

i dont know.... the iPod does what it is suppose to and does it so well I cant imagine how they could improve it.

But im sure once they do it'll seem so obvious that we all bang our heads and wonder how we didnt think of it.

Price and capacity is right now what I think need to be the focus.... and a better included case

a way to generate playlists on the iPod?

a sound in, record feature too

    better remote.....less wire

Ain't that the truth. It's what makes Apple great.

I wonder if they would shoot for some kind of built-in Bluetooth on the next rev? it seems to be the "next big thing" over in Cupertino.

The iPod needs a LOT of work. They Must do something about the battery issues. It needs FM (and DAB would be awsome) as well as a line-in, mic and direct to MP3 voice recorder. That would make it just about perfect.

Has anyone seen a tungsten T ? Why doesn't palm or Apple or someone put the features I described and 1.8" HDD into a PDA like that. Scarecly bigger than an iPod, but with all the recording facilities I need. Come on APPL! Do it!

Everyone keep suggesting BlueTooth on an iPod. I wonder why. The bandwidth of Bluetooth is something like 1.1Mbps. I don't remember exact numbers, but it is pretty low. Why would you want to transfer mp3s that way? Is it that hard to plug it in?

I guess for moving songs between mobile phones or other devices... but then again, that goes completely against the copy protection scheme apple has implemented. You know, you can't plug your iPod into someone else's computer and pull songs off of it in iTunes.

    &lt;productplacement&gt; Ya, that's why you use my brother's app...available in MacAddict soon for a free trial. <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=17443&db=mac"; target="_blank">http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=17443&db=mac</a>; &lt;/productplacement&gt;

BTW: He's working on some new things with it, but I'm not at liberty to really talk about it yet... I don't think.

what about uses other then music? contacts and the like, it would be nice if this info was synced over bluetooth

also what about expansion devices? bluetooth input device so that you can add/change contact info on the road?

    bluetooth headphones/remote

    bluetooth radio tuner/recorder?

there are a million different places you can go with this other then music transfer... and even then there is streaming music... that would still be cool under apple's dont steal music mantra... as of right now you can do the same thing if you plug you iPod into someone elses computer...

I doubt the bandwidth of Bluetooth could handle this (maybe g could...), but it'd be awsome to have some kind of wireless rendezvous-based technology, similar to what was demoed in July with iTunes. If you're in a room with more than one iPod, share music and playlists.

Why would you need Rendezvous with a non-IP connection?

    <a href="http://www.fujifilm.com.au/digital/cameras/camera.asp?id=17"; target="_blank">Fuji M603 with 1Gig microdrive</a>

Fuji have already released a camera that attaches to a microdrive to turn your humble 3Megapixel camera into a decent little DV camera.

So perhaps if the iPod got a little smaller still, Apple or an enterprising 3rd party might release a camera that matches it.

I know that this seems like a rehash of an old rumour, but as I said, Fuji are doing it now.

Apple should officially permit file transfer via Finder.

That old con artist Dorsal had an interesting idea back in the old days.

An iMac with a slot for the iPod to slide into, acting as a removable hard drive.

    That slot already exists. It's called FireWire. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

    Hardy har har.

As in a bay in the computer. An iPod sized hole in the case. Which the iPod would slide into.

Right, but why bother building something like that into it when you can just as easily plug it in via FireWire?

In regards to synchronizing contacts via BlueTooth, yeah, I could see that. But the iPod is primarily an MP3 player, and unless the iPod undergoes a major revolution, I don't think BT would go in just for that. Wireless headphones? You'd have to put a battery in the headphone then... same with the remote, etceteras. I'd rather have wires

    but hey, that's just me...

    Yes, Bluetooth for streaming music!

No more hauling the wires out just "beam" the music to your bluetooth enabled comp, receiver, or best yet car stereo! I think sony has a bluetooth enabled car audio deck...im sure more will follow.

I think i recall SJ talking in a keynote about streaming a friends itunes over wireless via rendezvous so it must be possible right?

One word: <a href="http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=speed&r=67"; target="_blank">Speed</a>. 1.1 mbs vs. 11mbs. It's just not doable over BT. (Getting decent streaming, that is.)

Keep in mind an mp3 is 320 kbps max, so direct streaming is not out of the question. However, I imagine such a technology would downsample whatever source file to a low bitrate mp3 on the fly and then stream the data.... 128-160 kbps or so... crystal quality FM equivalent.
