You better check who posted that again.

Electronics fail from time to time. If it's in the warranty period, it'll be replaced or fixed. There will never be a 100.00000% success rate.

1000, 10000 are insignificant considering the 100MM iPhones are sold each year. Let's consider this with other electronics. 40-50% of the original xbox failed.

Tell me what the rate is if the 4S failing with iOS 7. As I said before, you can't rely of search results and discussion posts. I'm sure someone has a scientific survey out there.

    Oops. Sorry about that.

As for the failures. I have stated several times that I do not have issue with the failures. It is the response that Apple took to the failures that I have a problem with. Telling thousands of people sorry we broke your phone but we aren't going to anything about it is the problem. That is unacceptable.

What are the odds this was a jailbroken iPhone?.

I was thinking the same thing.

However, I have had an iPhone bricked after an update.

I took it the local Apple shop, showed it to an elderly hipster in a blue t-shirt. Before I had time to yell 'This is an outrage!', he'd disappeared to get a replacement phone. The original phone was about a month out of warranty.

There are enough people having this problem to make any sane iPhone 4S user at least wary of upgrading. It is a gamble to upgrade an iPhone 4S to iOS7. It might be a small gamble, but it is still a gamble.

Life itself is a gamble.  There is a risk of dying each time you drive or step into the street.  There's a risk of dying from just staying at home.

You argue there's a risk of upgrading an iPhone 4S to iOS7 and therefore people should be wary of doing it, but then how's that different to the risk of upgrading any phone if the proportion of severe failures are small?

Um, no those are available in the iTunes Store. It's just the app that is iOS 7 only.

I'm sorry, but just because 78% of devices *have* been upgraded to 7, that doesn't mean that all 78% of users are happy with 7. I demand to see a poll that asks, how many of them would like to revert back to iOS 6, if they could.

Sent from my iPod (4th-gen, which will always use the perfectly good iOS 6. Thanks, Apple!)
Yeah and how many people who updated to iOS 6 in 2012 would have reverted back to iOS 5 if they could have? The fact is iOS 7 numbers keep going up. That wouldn't be the case if it was the disaster some say it is. This year will be the real test. But I'll bet my life savings Apple will sell a record number of iOS devices this year.

What are the odds this was a jailbroken iPhone? Above average? Was he a jerk when he went in to see someone at the Apple Store? They don't just leave customers out in the cold, so it looks like you're deliberately not telling the whole story here.
    THANK YOU!

@SpamSandwich - I guess you missed it where mknopp or his cousin couldn't find the time to make it to an Apple Store for them to look into the problem.

@mknopp - get that iPhone to an Apple Store and quit your bloody freakin' whining! I really can't believe you've been going this long with your silly rant about Apple going down the tubes in customer satisfaction and reliability because of this ONE phone and incident, and neither of you can be bothered to make an honest effort to sort it out. And please do tell why you think Apple should just send a new iPhone out to anybody that calls them with a problem? Please wake up from your dream!

And for the record: I'm labeling your beloved cousin as a lier, and the at the very least guilty of "deceptive embellishment of a story", because no Apple rep over the telephone ever told him verbatim, "you'll have to buy a new iPhone". Absolute and utter poppycock

Not in good form to leave the thread with an accusation, I would like to state that yes, I ran across 2 clients with issues after upgrading to iOS7 on iPhone 4s. It does indeed appear that iOS7 exposed some flaws in hardware and software if as most people, they updated the "simple" way.

When things appeared to be borked on a clients iPhone, I do a complete backup and wipe the system, do all updates, and then migrate from the cloud or manual backup. At such time that something doesn't work after doing that, we take it to an authorized Apple repair or store.

Case 1 = turned out to be a battery on it's last legs, Apple repaired it for €50.

Case 2 = messages were being received but couldn't send and the network was flaky. The above troubleshooting fixed both.

Both clients took to Apple bashing before we fixed there iPhones I might add.... and beyond an "Oh cool.... Thanks!", I haven't heard a word or complaint from either.

    As always... Just sayin'....:smokey:

It would be higher if they had an appropriate response to the fact that iOS7 has broken wifi on so many iPhone 4S phones. The fact that their much lauded customer support hasn't been at all supportive means that several acquaintances that I know are avoiding iOS7 like the plague and I cannot blame them. I would be avoiding it also if there was a good chance that it would break my phone and Apple's response was too bad, buy a new phone.

My iPhone 4S I use for development works great with WiFi and has since the first beta.

So, he gets his shorts tied up in a knot.. And he never even took it to an Apple Store to have them look at it?

Perhaps his WiFi chip is broken.  At minimum, he would have found out.  And likely, would have gotten some fix or discount from Apple

You're assuming that he has a Apple store near him. For a great many people that's just not a option.

I am typing this on an iPhone 4S running iOS7. It works great!

Regarding gingerbread here are my thoughts:

Android is so GREAT that you will be HAPPY with a two year old operating system.

Plus, you won't have to learn new things like Apple users when iOS 7 came out.

    Win-win!

Oh OK- that makes like total sense.

Everyone I know who has upgraded to iOS 7 hates it, leaving the colour scheme of the UI aside, the UI is just plain unintuitive. Rotate the phone when iPod is playing and WTF? What its that supposed to do? It seemingly brings up some random playlist on the screen which with an accidental press will then start playing. Why? Who wants that?

Slide the screen in certain places and other apps appear without any hint thats going to happen.

The photo  viewer app crops off the top of some photos.

    WiFi hotspot doesnt work anylonger

The new camera app UI isnt immediately obvious like the old one was.

Apple used to pride itself on interfaces that you didnt need to read a manual to figure out. Sadly now Jobs has gone iOS 7 gives us a hint at the future and its nearly as bizzare as Windows 8
