I need to convert the DV files to something other than Sorenson, etc etc... just plain AVI or MPEG (not 4 nor 2).

Is there any plugin or setting I can use?

I dont know if you can do this with i-movie, but quicktime pro is excellent for this. Quicktime pro is also good for seeing movies full screen, editing video in video, etc, so it is well worth the $30 US. They just send you a number to enter in the software you already have, so you get access to teh features immediately. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

I have QT Pro but there is no option to save as a plain vanilla MPEG (again, I want to save as MPEG1 video or something, not 2 nor 4)

I opened a raw DV file and I dont even GET an option to Export it as anything. QT Pro also does not allow to export to AVI.

Bizarre - I export to avi all the time from QT Pro. Do you have version 6.1

Weird, I just plucked a .dv file at random, exported it to AVI no problem. ZO, something's screwy with your installation if you don't get any export options in QT Pro. and all the codecs you have in QT should be available under the Export to Quicktime option in iMovie.

To answer your original question, to export to MPEG1, you're going to need something like Cleaner.

i have a feeling I know what the prob is. I created this movie in another user account on my same machine (dont ask why) and maybe my QT Pro registration isnt valid in that account... therefor not having option to export to AVI.

Now in my normal account i tried opening a random mov or mpeg and clicked on export and I have AVI again.

    I'll check that out.

Thanks for the Cleaner suggestion for MPEG 1. Dammit, woulda hoped that QT would cover something as old and basic as MPEG 1 encoding.
