Sounds like the obvious sweet spot. I think most people are expecting these changes so no surprises here. I'm really scratching my head what else they can pack into an iPhone......maybe an SD card, HDMI port, USB port, runs Flash, NFC.....hmmmmm.....no, I don't want any of that crap.

I can see them adding TB2. Mainly because it can drive a monitor. In the long run I expect the cell phone to replace the PC. However large screens are wonderful so TB2 is the rational way to offer that facility. Of course iOS improvements are needed, but in the long term this is where we are heading.

The 5c was never meant to be Apple's "cheaper model". That false notion was just a media fantasy. Apple has long sold three generations of iPhones at any one time.  According to Anandtech, "The iPhone 5c leverages the entirety of the iPhone 5 hardware platform, but moves from a glass + aluminum construction down to a more cost effective glass + polycarbonate design." (http://tinyurl.com/mocfr26) It is clearly positioned as Apple's middle-tier offering and fulfills the same role that the 4s served when the 5 came out. The 5c is priced no differently than the 4s was priced at that time. See http://aaplinvestors.net/stats/iphone/pricing/

Similar to the 4inch iPhone 5, and they've learnt people still want bigger. My predictions are as followed after 2013:

    2013

    iPhone 5s (4inch)

    iPhone 5c (4 inch)

    iPhone 4S (3.5 inch)

    2014

    iPhone 6 (4.8 inch)

    iPhone 5s (4 inch)

    iPhone 5c (4 inch)

    2015

    iPhone 6s (4.8 inch)

    iPhone 6c (4.8 inch)

    iPhone 5s (4 inch)

This will slowly bring the new size as a standard and it will become cheaper and cheaper. It also allows a redesign every year, from the 5C, to the 6, to the 6C.. To keep things interesting and fresh. It also allows for the three price points to continue. They won't release an updated 4inch iPhone beside a larger new iPhone 6... The iPhone 5s is 'forward thinking', it is a phone that will support many updates to come and will be at a cheaper price point. If iOS 8 comes with proper mobile payments, implementing iBeacons and Touch ID, the 5S will already support that.

    I agree with your assessment regarding 2013 & 2014.  Although come 2015, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple drops the numbering scheme and just has the follwing (for argument sake);

    iPhone S - 4.8"

    iPhone C - 4" & 4.8"

Well you are one of the lucky ones, but you'd be the first I ever met. Every poweruser I know has frequent trouble syncing their iPhones. I have spent 5+ hours on the phone with apple support in the last few years trying to resolve the many sync issues for which there are no solutions on the apple discussion threads after years of the same problems. These problems are mostly revolving around syncing photo libraries with iPhoto but I also often have issues with keeping music synced with iTunes. Eventually songs disappear on my or my wife's iPhone. It takes hours to erase and then resync large libraries of music and photos, even when skipping WiFi and going direct with USB.

I realize it isn't happening to everyone, but the fact that this Apple Discussion, https://discussions.apple.com/message/23029822 , has over 90,000 views (and there are others), tells me I'm not alone. Apple has one KB article telling you to just not sync so much stuff. Excuse me? They sold me a 64 GB iPhone. I would like to use it.

I have not been able to sync music or photos for the past several months (plus it has removed songs I already had on the device!). Doing a full restore fixes the problem for a few days, but restoring all my content takes days and I get error messages over and over. I'm so frustrated with Apple, over this and other issues (like the huuuge number of bugs in iPhoto), I don't even like to walk in to Apple stores anymore.

8.7 megapixels is above the resolution of Ultra HD (consumer 4K)
A 1.78:1 aspect ratio is not good for still photography. 1.33:1, which apple uses now, is much better. If a sensor width of 4,096 pixels is used, which for a few reasons is better to standardize on than 3,840, then 3,072 is needed for the height. That's 12.6 megapixels. That's what Apple should go to, but only if the RAM is increased to at least 2GB.
