You lost me after "iPad ..." :D

I have at least one of every model in my cupboard.

Actually, what is being sold today as an iPad 2 is really a kind of iPad 2+, and not the original iPad 2.

There are some enhancements to the current model that were not part of the original iPad 2. Though I can't recall what those enhancements were.

    More the iPad Mini.

My business just deployed > 5000 iPads in the last 3 months for our business customers. 75% Minis. Compared to 30% Mini last year. Medical clinics, for example, love how Minis fit into their lab coats.

FYI - We also deployed > 2000 Android tablets.

Your company sure knows how to piss off 2000 business customers. 8-)

Quite remarkable really. I'd challenge someone to find a three year old Android tablet that is (a) still running with good battery life, (b) running the very latest OS, and (c) able to run the latest apps. I'd also challenge someone to find a three year old windows tablet, but they didn't exist then. No future in this tablet "fad" according to Ballmer back then!

I'm glad that some other OP's have stated that it's hard to "let go" of an iPad... because sometimes I feel rather embarrassed and foolish how attached I become to my own as well as other folks Apple gear I come in contact with.

As it relates to the iPad 2... I recently quoted a friend $100 below a new similar spec'ed Air, and in the second breath told him he would be stupid to take my offer. Truth is, I couldn't part with the bugger. Personal device indeed!

As an avid and unappologetic Apple Fanboi... I as well as others have wondered whether I'm not quite right "upstairs", especially the way I take such care with my own devices, but take it upon myself to wean, clean and pamper their's when trusted to my care or I have to work on them. Once an Apple device has been to my studio or I need to sit down at one at a clients, whether to be installed, upgraded, whatever... it's always treated with respect and a certain "tech love" that I can't truthfully break myself from doing. Funny that I almost feel the respect to be mutual, in that I can coax even the most abused and mistreated Apple device back to life (metaphorically)... if even for a short time to see that it's EOL sometimes.

OK... bring on the haters and couch therapists. You can forget the straightjacket, not necessary... I'm not leaving without an Army to force me to. And definitly not coming without my iPad 2... and uhm... the 3, 4, Air and Mini... 2 MPBs, 3 iMacs, MP, 2 AppleTVs 4 iPhones, and my museum in the basement...... just bring a truck! Do you want their names, age and Passports as well... bring a court order too then... :p....:smokey:

OMG! I just realized I've never owned a mac Mini!!! Hmmm... maybe the coming update will cause me to add to the family, but can't imagine what I'd use it for. HTCP comes to mind though....:smokey:

    I'm hopeless!

My iPad 2 has served me well. It was a Godsend when I was in hospital for two months. I will always remember the day that I had a major operation that saved my right leg, as it was the day that Steve Jobs died.

I also had the original iPad and received it a day before it was officially released in the shops!

The third and fourth generations didn't interest me, as they were both heavier than the iPad 2, which was significantly lighter than the iPad.

The Air sorely tempted me, but I have resisted, and eagerly await this year's offering.

How does Ming-Chi Kuo do it. Who could ever have predicted that Apple would discontinue it's second generation 3 year old iPad2.

Would this mean no more updates? I don't see any reason to move (up?) to the iPad Air. I'd My iPad is great for personal use as well as the educational apps my students use. Does this mean they won't support my device anymore?

It will be supported until at least this summer. It may or may not be supported thereafter. My guess is that it won't be able to use iOS 8.

LOL the biggest scam was selling this thing at $399, instead of keeping the iPad 4th gen at that price. They ripped off customers by selling a 3 year old product at a high price! How they continue to get away with this is beyond me. I understand their reasoning, they didn't want to hurt the iPad Air sales by selling a VERY SIMILAR product in the iPad 4th gen. Apple, just after customers' money instead of providing the right products at the right price.

You don’t seem to comprehend much of anything at all, given your other posts. That’s how they “get away with it”.

I received one as a gift when I heard they were being discontinued. Unfortunately future iPads will be too narrow to use it. And it doesn’t exactly fit mine. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

    I just like orange.

And my guess is that iOS 8 WILL work on the iPad 2.

IMHO... iOS 8 will see the maturing of iOS 7. And while it's possible that some new features will recquire a recent iPad or iPhone... most of the feautures will have to deal with added customization and "fleshing out" the vision and integration of iOS and OSX.

    Ludicrous and typical troll reply.

    1) Apple has never ripped off anyone... ever. Because YOU have ALWAYS had the choice not to be "ripped off" if you so choose to, by buying something else.

    2) They get away with a higher price for their devices, because no other manufacturer has figured out how to mix features AND quality at a similar price point. Apple users pay more because they actually do get more, not in specs... but in overall use, quality... and if you really don't like the experience... resale value when you dump it.

We would all love for Apple devices to be less expensive... in the same vein as a less expensive Porsche, Mercedes, BMW... flat in London, Paris or New York... or anything else that has a high market value as apposed to competing mass market Brands. Brand being the keyword here. Apple coddles and protects it... so that it's users always get good resale value when they part with their devices.

If you really want to rant and pull your hair out... I personally believe Apple devices are too cheap. Mainly because the competition isn't anywhere close to the value proposition that Apple devices afford it's users.

So you can "Bite The Apple" Fan writing this... but careful... my only value prop is that I bite back. Valuable I'm sure to you, because according to a recent study folks like you get their jollies this way daily. I should probably refrain from helping you "Get Off" ... but I try to be kind to everyone, if only to assist in putting themselves out of misery by overindulging their fetish and choking on it or pushing it too far... :smokey:

Not me; I'd prefer a 6 fold price increase. $3k iPhones $4k iPads, $10k Macs. This way we wouldn't have many trolls here as they can only afford cheap Android devices. You won't find them bashing BMW on some forum since they couldn't afford that anyway.

We can enjoy viewpoints on Apple products and services from AI members who are literate and well informed. The constant '64-bit is of no use on the 5s because it has less than 4GB RAM' is getting was stupid from day 1. And so many more uninformed posts from trolls or the likes.

Trolls. So broke they can’t pay attention to detail.

Wow, your kids are spoiled. Having your own iPad when you're 5? Wow, that's all I have to say.

Don't know who you're responding to, but if the poster meant he or she simply handed down their previous iPad as they bought a new one for him/herself I'd say that's what most people do. It's not like people start buying iPads for their 5 year old.

I also added in my original post this... but's it's possible it got lost in my rambling writing style.

I doubt anything these days would stop the trolls, whether the be individuals, bloggers or analysts. The Apple value proposition has extended itself into simply uttering or writing the word "Apple": higher view and click counts.

Imagine that... or this: put just the word "Apple" with an exclamation or question mark in a title, with no copy text whatsoever. I bet it would get more clicks, questions and comments than the lead story of the day at many a blog or major website.

Edit: and poor Constable Oddo would have to weather the stock taking another 5% dip for "Decision to Say Nothing About Apple Hints at Indecisiveness About Their Future", reported in Asshats-R-US blog.

Careful; you're challenging Macky for the resident comedian position (and I mean that in a good way).

    I realize you're a troll, so I don't know why I'm bothering, but ...

Did someone hold a gun to your head and force you to buy something that you felt was overpriced, and now you're suffering from PTSD?  I'm just wondering.
