Yes, that's Sammy should do:  Reinforce the public perception even more that celebrities can't even be paid to use Androids, and that they prefer iPhones.  That's a good PR approach.

Actually that's pretty much utter crap. It's very much 'tightly integrated' into your Google big brother account and it's on by default. You actually have to go out of your way in initial setup to turn it off.  The only exception is certain 3rd party app data, which is up to developers to decide how it's handled.

Oh, that's ok. I’ll just go to each of the 194 third party app websites for the ones on my Android phone and see what data, if any, they back up. Should only take a few days. Or I’ll carry on using my iPhone knowing that every single thing is backed up.

Try engaging a few more brain cells next time you post; you'll find that less effluence is produced as a result.

Seriously?  DED is an entertainer, not a writer or journalist.  If you envision him with pompoms yelling "GOOOooooo AAAppplleeee!!!" before you read his articles, you'll be in a far better state to read his skits.  He usually doesn't outright lie, but stretches reality pretty far in order to make Apple fans cheer.  This is AppleInsider.  If you prefer Android, its not hard to find similar pro android sites.  Most moderate sites just get killed by the flame wars, so your best bet is to read both of the extreme sides and make up your own mind.  Its a little like switching between Fox entertainment (AppleInsider) and MSNBC (Phandroid/Android Authority etc) and watching both of those without taking either of them as an unbiased source.

DED does need some new material though as his articles just seem to be the same 5 topics over and over.

For example, in this article he doesn't outright lie, he says that Android users may go to the Play store and select some of the fancier options with fees up to $120 per year!  That's absolutely true.  Of course, Apple users are also free to go to the app store and select pricier backup options too, if they so desire (unless Apple banned those Apps as competing with its own).  That's probably not what most do, since most just turn on iCloud in their settings.  DED fails to mention that cloud backups are available free on all Android devices, and usually pretty darn easy to get to.  For example, on the Note 3 in question, Settings->Backup & Reset -> and check 'Back up my data' option.  It actually has you do that when you set the phone up.   But that wouldn't be nearly as fun and entertaining an article, nor give the haters anything to hate on.

    From one troll to another.

No hobbits to eat here, I'm afraid.

Another Chicken Little article.  What do we get from DED tomorrow - a long winded article spinning an incredibly improbable chain of possible events that lead to his spurious conclusion that the New York apartment building blew up because someone in it had a Samsung phone?

Or... It's been proven that Samsung phones are out of phase with the Earth's ley lines and that if too many Samsung phone users were to visit Yellowstone NP at the same time, the combined ley desynchronicity would create a magmatic imbalance, triggering a super volcanic even  that would wipe out 94% of all life on the North American continent, and 18% globally.  Of course you wouldn't get such a problem with iPhones because Apple carefully ley-tunes each and every one of them, by hand.

Or... Never board a plane if you notice more than 4 people ahead of you using a Samsung phone because they are all guaranteed to be RAT infested and the hive-mind AI created when too many infected phones are in close proximity will hack into the Plane's systems and cause it to divert to North Korea - if you are lucky.

So funny! If all trolls were as inventive as you, they would be much more tolerable. Your scenarios are hilarious. If you're going to troll, please do more like that! Made me laugh out loud. I found the Yellowstone analogy particularly rib-tickling.

Plenty of comments here about backup, but what about the fact that the Samsung phone wiped all his data in the first place? Seems to me that speaks volumes about Android/Samsung.

I've had my iphone crash and need a factory reset to get back to a working state, losing all my data in the process ( tbough I wasnt stupid enough not to have a back up). Seems to me that speaks volumes about Apple/iOS.

I have a Macbook Pro Retina that has now completely locked up at least 9 times since installing Mavericks, despite installing all the subsequent OS updates in the hope Apple has sneaked a fix in.

Speaks volumes about the worlds most advanced OS.

you should not have that big of an issue. I have never   ever    ever in all my days of macs seen that kind of problems unless hardware is borked. A full system install should have fixed your troubles.

I have been upgrading/migrating macs since 10.2, my computers/hardware have changed many times.  yes even a 15" retina macbook pro in there and can't even imagine those problems. I guess maybe it could happen, but then a trip to the genius bar when the problems persisted should have given you satisfaction.

If i that those kind of problems with a brand of equipment (or if I made them up)  I would probably go to forums where said Brand is discussed  and gripe about it any time i could, and use it as an excuse to bad mouth the Brand when ever it could help my argument.

the vast majority of users for iOS, android, OSX, Windows etc never suffer issues like that but due to the sheer volume of users there will always be some who suffer problems. In the age of the internet people hear about other peoples issues or want to tell others of their issues. These can be picked up by other people who through their own bias use it as proof of the superiority of their chosen preference and how bad every other choice is. It is human nature.
The tribal aspect of people wanting to be part of a group.
In this forum it manifests itself as Apple good (as an Apple fan site this is understandable) and Android/windows bad. I'd be very worried for Apple if it wasnt. Though the persistent dismissal of dissenting views from the "groupmindset" is bad as it helps prevent sensible discourse.

10.2?  I have been using Macs since I bought an SE new and OSX since OS 10.0.  If you include the SE in the loft, I have 6 Macs in the house - 4 still functional.  I am not the only person having this problem.  There are several threads on the Apple discussions forum where other people have reported this problem also.  Not once did I have a problem with Mountain Lion. It only manifested after installing Mavericks, so I think it is reasonable to suspect it is not a hardware issue and is related to Mavericks.

Genius Bar?  Don't make me laugh, Apple don't even have a store in Ireland - let alone anywhere near me.  I think the nearest one to me might be in London.

I do not understand people who think Apple makes stuff that is beyond reproach.  The video circuitry in the SE died.  The WiFi card in my 15" Powerbook Ti died, then the replacement WiFi card died then the GPU chip finally detached itself from the motherboard.  The WiFi card in my Wife's G5 died, but it's still going fine after fitting a replacement.  Apple fitted an out of spec optical drive to my 13" Macbook Unibody that wouldn't read double layer DVDs - a known and well reported problem.  Luckily that one was still in warranty when I discovered the problem.  The battery in the Unibody has swelled to the point it is hard to close the battery compartment lid and it doesn't fit as well as it did. The HD in my iPod Classic died - again luckily while it was still under warranty.  I wasn't so fortunate with the battery in it which was a problem subject to a class action in the US which Apple didn't see fit to address for customers outside the US.  Now I have this problem with my MBPR.  There has never been a problem with the 16Gb iPod nano, the iPod Touch or my son's 23" iMac - touch wood.

My experience owning quite a selection of expensive Apple devices does not inspire me to deify and worship the company.

Neither does mine. But what you refuse to realize is that you’re on the fringe. Most experiences don’t end with a Mac that stops working. I have Apple products stretching back to the late ‘70s. All work perfectly.

    i said update/migrating since 10.2...

I have had macs back to 1987, already a quarter century wise by then. I still have my airline/travel bag from the Macintosh 512K. I was so proud of that computer I kept it for years - gave away the computer 20 years ago and all the cool software, kept and used the bag for some of my personal stage gear. The freaking bag alone cost an arm and leg, was tough as hell and at times has served as a good conversational piece. (it just worked again 8^)  )

My point was that since modern upgrade/migration i have never ever ever seen the problems to the extent that you described unless the hardware was bad.

So judging by your usual Apple hater posts here on AI, I called BS
