Post here if you are interested in Newton

Topic says it all, just looked around and found about ten Newton related threads in various forums - since there is "not enough interest" to have a Newton forum, I was curious to meet the ghosts posting all these threads ...

Hey, Sinewave - according to 90% of the market Apple is dead too, so what are we all doing here?

The Big difference here? Macs are still being made and supported

That is what I thought too until I found out just how many people are still developing software and drivers and selling Newton related products.

To me that is supported. You can still find all of Apple's TILs regarding the Newton line at various Newton sites and tell you the truth the meaning of "supported" generally goes the way of the dodo for the majority of people after their warrantee runs out.

But on that note Apple will still sell you Newton service parts and there are still Newton repair centers although not run by Apple.

My point was and is that the perception of a "dead" platform does not indicate that the platform is actually dead. Otherwise by that definition all Macs made prior to the x500 line of Power Macintoshes are dead as Apple has dropped support for all 68K and 6/7/8100 Power Macintoshes.

But I don't think the AppleInsider forums would deride someone for talking about getting their 68K Mac running to do something - that discussion has happened many times as there are a lot of people who like to use old Macs which are by your standard "dead."

But Newtons are no longer being made. It's a dead platform

Although I own a MessagePad 2000, I cannot say that I am "interested" since I hardly ever use the thing. What I'd like to see is a revised version of the Newton running a lite version of OS X. Yeah, I'd be interested in THAT!

I think you've made your point clear. You don't want a Newton forum because you don't like them. Guess what, you don't need to troll every single Newton thread that there is- and there are a LOT of Newton threads here to make that clear to everyone. If you have a Palm or PocketPC and that suits you, then fine. Considering Palm is going to be bought out by Microsoft and the Pocket PC platform IS Microsoft, then I hope you already have your handhelds because that's what there is going to be to choose from.

Actually, the Newton OS is still being updated. And what's wrong with talking about a 'dead' platform? Should we not be allowed to talk about older OSes? Mac OS 9.2.1 may never be updated again so its a dead platform right?

I'd like to see a newton forum. Even if there are only a handful of people using them, those people would be pulluting the other forums, so why not give them their own?

How about a general PDA forum? Newton is dead, but Mac users use other PDAs than Newtons. Palm users, and PocketPC users might need some help or want to talk about the latest and greatest (well, only greatest if you have a PocketPC) of their platform.
