Will they let you screw around at the Apple Store ?

I am wondering if I could go to the apple store, with some movies on my iPod in hand, plug it into a SuperDrive G4, screw around with Final Cut Pro and iDVD, and make a DVD and leave?

I would probably end up buying a pack of Blank DVD's, but other than that, I would be using their computers for free.

So, can i do that without being kicked out? I was there a week ago and just played with FCP and no one cared, but this is for actuall y doing things and not playing around. please reply <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I dont think they'll give you a free DVD-R. Dont they cost $10 a peice?

they've been known to do it on occasion. especially for demonstration purposes

They did cost $10 a piece. However, the price is now $30 for a 5-pack, so it's $6 a piece.

no, just tell them you want to try out some stuff on the new macs to see how it goes and do it.

believe me, they have enough macs in the place.

yea.

you'll never know until you'll try but from most people I have talked to they are pretty cool with everything and any ideas.

I even heard that one guy was unsure if he would like the software he was buying so the apple rep offered to open it and install it on a mac to let him use it. which he did.

yeah, I called the Apple Store and actually asked them:

The guys said I could make a DVD as long as it "did not take too long".

Well, they let me root their machines with them bearing witness. They don't worry too much. If somebody wipes their HDDs, they'll probably blacklist the customer. The human brain is remarkably good at remembering faces.

They wipe the ghost the computers every night.

Look at it this way kid. They give 10 people a $6 DVD R and sell one of them a G4 QuickSilver because of it. Good return on their investment if you ask me.

I heard that they restore every mac's hardrive every night so I guess they really don't care what you do to them. is this true?

I doubt they do that because that would erase the demos and music in iTunes and everything and I don't think they'd spend all the time restoring things to the way they were.

I think it's then by the server in the store at night. at least that's what I had heard. perhaps it just deletes and additions from the previous day and restores what's missing?

Er, They wipe/ghost the computers every night was what I meant to say. They have several preconfigured disk images for each of the different displays.

They probably use Apple Software Restore to do it too. It's not that hard. Let's say each nightshift employee has a section to maintain. They each have several CDs...complete disk images, mp3s for the iTunes music library, tutorials for iDVD/iMovie...

Would'nt it be easier if they used a network script.

Like, the applescript would know if it is late enough, then it would tell the server to get the file ready and then re-install the whole lot!
