Just saw it too! I was going to start a thread, but you beat me too it. Do you think Apple paid them to do it? The "Nick Burns" SNL skit has used the iMacs before but not to this extent! Great plug for the iPod though.

basically the writers and staff of SNL are known mac nuts so that's why they always appear in their skits but this was almost too apple blatant.

    Good!

Hell, if Apple isn't going to get on the ball and do something about their lame-ass marketing efforts (or lack thereof), we'll take what we can get.

The SNL crew, if indeed Mac nuts and fans, are probably like us in that they think Apple's crappy marketing approach is a total shame, so why not do what we can for the cause?

Lord knows if I ran a TV show or managed stage plays or was responsible for getting props for movies, I'd do my best to make sure that in at least 65% of the scenes, some sort of Apple product was conspicuously (did I spell that anywhere close to right?) placed.

Speaking of which, I just watched "Absolutely Fabulous" (for the first time ever, actually) on Comedy Central and it was a walking Apple commercial itself! Prominently displayed throughout the episode was a Blue Dalmation iMac, a G4 Cube and flat panel Studio Displays (looked to be 15" models). But the Apple logo (especially on the Cube and the back of the displays) got MAJOR screen time in tons of scenes.

Yeah, if Apple isn't going to step up, I guess fans and users throughout the industry may as well do what they can.

    Damn shame, too...

i bet a lot of people were like ,"iPod? That's not real, Ohhhhh, that SNL is so funnny."

    But, the OPPOSITE IS TRUE

The iPod is a real product, and SNL is not funny. It has not been funny at all this season!

Merde. The ONE time I go to sleep early on Saturday night (so I can get up and see the Leonid Meteor Shower in a couple of hours) and I miss this cool iPod spot on SNL! Arrrgg... why must the universe torment me so?!

They even mentioned that the iPod holds 1,000 songs ... unfortunately it was just a setup for a lame "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" joke.

They used to make fun of Bill Gates too. They have in the past made Apple like commercials and such. It's not surprising to find creative people attracted to the Mac.

Anyone remember the old Macintosh JR SNL commercial? "The power to crush the other kids" God that was awesome! I've got it on a CD somewhere if anyone wants a copy.

Actually, Apple has done a superb job of product placment. And yes, they pay...just like Coke, Pepsi, etc.

It is the one area they are OK with as far as ads go.

Yea, i saw it. I really don't think its prodcut placement as placmnet just means thety are there. In the skit the mac are being talked about with 'almost' correct terms such as the control strip, firewire, etc. I was waiting for more stuff to do from with the ipod. "Is that a 1000 songs in your pocket or are you just happy to see me." that would have worked with the whole guys with boobs website gag. Whatever, it was basily a 5 minute apple ad. I was sure that nick burns had been killed off because of the weak reaction from the crowd the last couple of times (of wait thats EVERY SNL skit.) it one was kinda funny. I cracked up at the "what are you gonna do, go home, eat some snackwells and talk to your cat." line, that is so my mom! ok thats enough rambling from me.

You are correct, SNL is going down hill, bring back the old players. Their silly attempts to do that though in this season has proven hopeless. Something will come along and save it.....but when?

SNL officially died when they lost Farley and Carvey. Its getting better now, especially the news. Jimmy Fallon is great and so is Tina Fey.

I think the show is lacking the chemistry between the players that it once had. They kinda even look mad at each other at times. It's strange when you compare this cast with the one casts of old, something just looks like it's missing. Last year was horrid, but this year things look a little better.

SNL is definately going downhill. The only thing funny is Nick Burns. I can't believe that I missed it last night. I only saw the very begining of SNL and then I fell alseep. Oh well, they play enough reruns of SNL every season nowadays.

Apple does no product placement where they pay for it. none. there was a big story about it I think last year either on one of the mac websites or magazines

Now they just need to get product placement on a show people actually watch.

[quote]By the way, if you wonder who handles all the product placement of Macs in the movies and TV series, it's Suzanne Forlenza. According to a recent Apple Insider article, she says Apple lands the product placement by building close relationships with all the studios and production companies who provide opportunities in their scripts for Apple products. However, she adds that "frankly, Apple product sells itself, and the demands for it to appear everywhere is overwhelming."

Forlenza also says that Apple doesn't pay for the placement, but simply loans out product in exchange for exposure. (Thanks to 'Mac Guru' Robert Ruggles for sending this our way.)
