Apple Store advertising?

Do the Apple stores have any local print or TV advertising? I would hope so since foot traffic alone won't help them sell Macs.

Of course not, imacSE! What are you thinking? Why, that goes against Apple's policy of doing as little advertising and "word-getting-out" as possible.

I'm convinced they make those commercials to show once at the Macworld Expo keynote (where everyone is obligated to applaud, even if - like the last three or four efforts - the commercial completely sucks a dish towel. After the showing of it at the Expo, it might be shown during a "very special episode" of "Walker, Texas Ranger" or on the "The One Where Monica Gets Knocked Up" sweeps week episode of "Friends".

Far be it for Apple to actually make a commercial touting their cool stuff. No, it's not the holiday season or anything, people aren't out buying stuff right now. Most PC users and newbies are fully aware that 20 Apple Stores exist nationwide, with more to come. Most non-Mac users are TOTALLY aware of the iPod, the new iBooks, iTunes, iMovie, OS X, the Quicksilver G4, the Titanium PowerBooks, the awesome flat panel displays, the ease of use and relatively hassle-free nature of Macs.

Non-Mac users are also abundantly aware that MHz isn't everything and that there are thousands and thousands of software titles available for the platform.

Apple knows this and is smartly saving money by making commercials touting any of the above to people so they can instead funnel that money into perfecting injection molding processes for new iMac patterns that are such a hit and so popular with buyers that they lasted an entire 5 months!

Come on, man. It's obvious Apple is doing everything it can when it comes to marketing their stuff and getting the word out to the non-Mac using public.

The genius of putting cool, product-laden stores in high-traffic, upscale malls and shopping centers and not telling anyone about it but maccentral.com is sublime in its genius.

Mere mortals like us wouldn't be able to grasp the underlying thinking behind those decisions.

(Hmmm...do I need a <sarcasm> tag in this post or not? Let's see what happens and see if anyone actually thinks I'm NOT being facetious...)

When in 1998, when the snail and burning pentium guy commercials arose I finally was satisfied that Apple "finally" got it. Boy, do I hate being wrong!

Then it fell to peices - we got iMacs twirling around with music. They actually paid to do this? Hmm.

Apple desperatly needs ads for it's stores. Every store on the planet I can think of does. They also need to have sales, to attract more people. Then they need to advertise those sales. If one person stops in to buy a game on sale, they could walk out with a computer. Sales are vital to the success of the store, if not on their products, on third party stuff.

Well, Apple would have to commit a minimum of $25 million for a barely visible ad campaign... something it just can't do and make it's numbers for this quarter.
