Um, I think some of you "high posters" are getting a little full of yourselves. Exactly what is it about having made more posts to these forums that clues you in to more inside information? If Steve Jobs himself posted here to tell us about the new G5 coming out next Wednesday, I guarantee his post count would be exactly 1. (then we'd have to go into a big debate about whether or not "StevieJ" really was Steve Jobs )

As a matter of fact, I trust the inside information from posters with lower counts more than from posters with higher counts. The "low counters" are more likely not to have any strange, egotistical reason to lie to all of us .

I think the point being that this is a public rumour board. There are some people in the world who like to post BS, some for fun, some for status, and maybe some is real.

If you can't accept that this will happen, then you should not look at these boards. Live and let live. Your life is not threatened by what appears here, so chill <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Attention seekers are more likely to have high post counts -- posting is how they get attention so they are likely to do it a lot. This doesn't mean they aren't low posters either since they could go through the trouble of getting another account here.

The only thing that strikes me as suspicious about this post is that a couple of weeks ago somebody specifically asked why we didn't hear from the people actually making the boxes. Now we do. Awfully co-incidental.

Yes, it could be the G4 iMac but everybody has heard of the iMac, haven't they? And that is probably the predominant text on the box.

mmm, maybe we should ask the mods for an 'Insider's Entrance Exam". I think anyone willing to take the test and pass it deserves to be heard, hehe

Apple computers are made in the Far East. I would presume the boxes are made in the area as well. Where is this factory?

Really, all my computers were made either in California, USA or Cork, Ireland

in generally, all PowerMacs are manufacturered in California. the other lines get split up and some are outsourced now

The Cork plant no longer makes iMacs. The new iMac is made in the Far East as is the iBook, TiBook. Only the Towers are still assembled domestically, I believe. At one time CRT iMacs were made in Mexico by a division of LC Electronics of Singapore, but I don't know if they still are. Basically, Apple outsources most of its computers and the iPod.

No wonder the Powermacs are so overpriced.

If Apple is going to compete with Wintels in price, then they will have to bite the bullet, move production to the far east, and start crackin' the whip on children to bust out cheap Macs. Child labor is the way to go for low prices.

I was kidding. I'd rather pay more for a computer than have children make it.

To the best of my knowledge Dell is. Part of their success is tied to keeping low inventories, which couldn't be done effectively if they weren't mostly domestic, shipping times or prices would be too high otherwise. I read a that their OptiPlex factory had an inventory of only about 7 hours during 2000. They have a very suffisticated supply network, with their suppliers being physically located very near the plant, usually within a 90 min drive.

I had a friend who talked to his cousin who's married to a farmer who milks a cow that looks like the pattern on the new Gateway..........oooooppppssss! I guess the farmer got the cow drunk.

These really are getting out of hand and the target of every immature little boy out there.
