If the speedbump is as lame as rumored, Time would be wasting their time doing an article on it.

Forget it. That was a one time event. Time got knocked about it so don't expect them to trumpet a speed bumped Tower. Don't worry, Monday or Tuesday will be the unveiling. Product is at distributors and will be sent out Monday for Tuesday sale. You heard it the umpteenth time here.

it was a joke folks...time carrying a story about a brand new "consumer" computer makes sense since the orginal iMac made such a change in computer and even culture (other companies copied the iMac style and were sucessfully sued by apple, many consumer products came out in iMac colors and plastic style, websites popped up dedicated to the iMac)...the new iMac should do the same and Time jumped on it......Time would have no interest in a "pro" model computer coming out...too small of an audience and it is unlikely to be something that affects the average person in a visible way....plus, i seriously doubt that the same website would pre-release new secret info twice in a row...it was just my shit poor attempt at humor....g

I never heard that Time "took shit" for writing an article and cover story on the new iMac. That story was good and worthy of a cover page. The best selling PC of all time is reborn, sounds like a winner to me.

Has anyone seen the 20 page Apple insert in the latest Time Mangazine? I hope this will be the trend of the future. Great layout and it sells benefits..can you believe that?

This is the time for aggressive marketing for Apple. What better way to spend a measly $100 million out of a 4.4 billion hoard.

Ads in local markets to drive customers into the 27 Apple Stores, where the user experience is fantastic will do more to convert PeeCe users than anything else. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

    Go get 'em Apple <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

I agree, it's a nice ad. It's actually 12 pages and is also in Entertainment Weekly and Newsweek. Apple has produced these kind of ad inserts before for the original iMac and the new iBook among others. I believe the print ads are superior to the TV ones. The print ads give info and specs and what the iMac can do, the TV ads are full of self-congratulatory comments about Apple (preaching to the converted) and don't really sell the product. That's my opinion anyways.

Time took an unbelievable amount of shit in journalistic circles for running a product story on its cover, especially in the context of the week's events. I don't think we'll see another product on Time's cover for a long time.

What was so bad about it, though?

Time is a newsweekly, not a shill for product introductions by corporations. Apple is also a major advertiser in the magazine as well. That's the reason for the heat they took for the cover story.
