Rumor: Apple supplier Pegatron nets orders for 4.7-inch 'iPhone 6,' to ship in September

According to the latest rumblings out of East Asia, major Apple supplier Pegatron has received 15 percent of orders for the 4.7-inch next-generation "iPhone 6," which is expected to launch in September.

A report from Taiwan's Commercial Times on Tuesday claims Pegatron's 15 percent share of upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 6 orders is in addition to continued manufacture of current models like iPhone 5C and 4S.

Overall, the firm will be responsible for manufacturing 50 million iPhones in 2014, up from 35 million last year. The 40 percent bump in production share is likely attributed to iPhone 6 ramp up in the second and third quarters ahead of a debut in September.

To accommodate the influx of new orders, Pegatron is reportedly offloading production to a new facility in Kunshan, the publication said.

Tuesday's report jibes with a March rumor from the China Times, which cited sources as saying Pegatron would kick off iPhone 6 production at its Kunshan plant sometime in quarter two. At the time, the Taiwan-based company was rumored to be training "thousands" of new workers to take on its share of iPhone 6 manufacturing duties.

In a bid to diversify its supply chain, Apple is reportedly splitting next-gen handset production between its partner suppliers. With Pegatron rumored to be taking a 15 percent share of orders for the 4.7-inch model, it can be speculated that Foxconn will produce the remaining 85 percent. Until now, the manufacture of premium Apple handsets like the iPhone 5s was the exclusive domain of Foxconn.

For the 2014 model year, Apple is widely expected to launch two new top-end iPhones with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes. Recent reports suggest the smaller version will be unveiled in September as per Apple's usual product cycle, while the larger "phablet" style offering could be delayed by months due to production issues related to display and battery yields.

Apple said to be set to delay launch of purported Anti-Gravity Boots due to rumoured "serious production issues", which insiders apparently attribute to "huge flaws in Tim Cook's vision and management skills". Anonymous sources claim "massive development cock-up" may lead to possible new Anti-Gravity product line being cancelled before even being formally announced.

Apple share price set to tumble.

    Doom beckons.

These rumors are getting laughable as asterion points out. So now we have rumors layered on top of rumors. You may as well start talking about the rumored worker strike that is rumored to ensue when the workers assigned to work on the rumored iPhone 6's rumored battery and screen problems are rumored to have come down with mass indigestion due to something rumored to have been placed into their factory lunch meal to improve worker productivity.

At least this kind of rumor mongering would be more appropriate and would justify labeling all of these articles as being "Colon Sourced Information" rather than Rumor. This would also explain the part about the "latest rumblings out of East Asia."

For the 2014 model year, Apple is widely <a href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/04/09/apple-reportedly-plans-high-res-55-iphone-6-all-new-47-model-for-later-this-year">expected</a> to launch two new top-end iPhones with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes.

No. No they're not. Have you been following f ANYTHING at all?

They are widely expected to introduce ONE new model at 4.7", while there has been zero evidence leaks or rumors about the phabled 5.5" device. That's nothing but a crock of crap.

The 5.5 inch is an iPod Touch that will be offered with a phone option. So you'll have iPod Touch 5.5 inch screen, and iPod Phone with 5.5 inch screen. It will be introduced at a special iPod event in October. Works we'll from manufacturing perspective, and is really intended for markets with lower GDP per capita. These are markets where people can't afford an iPhone and iPad. As a bonus, it will dig into Android market share with lower income customers in higher GDP per capita countries. Those who also cannot afford a phone and tablet and compromise with a phablet.

Also, iPhone 5c will remain the off the run phone with 4 inch screen and minor bump in components. 5s will be discontinued.

Side note: diamonds, like gold, have real intrinsic value. One is the hardest substance known on earth, the other is a metal that does not oxidize. Both are rare and not easily mined. This durability and scarcity make them ideal stores of value. They both have industrial uses as well.

'iPhone 6' in quotes is right... they won't call it the iPhone 6 because with varying screen sizes it might be confusing that the model numbers don't match the screen sizes, such as with laptops. Maybe iPhone Air or something iPhone Pro or something like that.

It would hilarious if the final product looked different from these touted mockups. It has happened before.

The MacBook Air comes in two sizes.
    So does the MacBook Pro.

Yep, and they're called the Macbook Pro 13" and Macbook Pro 15". That's why, if the iPhone has multiple screen sizes, having the numbers after the name not referring to the screen sizes would be potentially confusing. e.g. 'I asked for an iPhone 4.7" and this box says iPhone 6. You've given me the wrong one.'

I have agree. AI is using itself as the source (linking to itself, to an article citing Ming-chi Kuo as the source). "Apple is widely expected to" is a weasel phrase because the subject is not identified: who is expecting Apple to? You start a rumor, spread it around the web, then say, "Look! The web widely expects this! It must be true if everyone is expecting it!"

And still not even one leak or rumor about a 4" iPhone 6. I think the chance of Apple making another 4" iPhone 6 are getting slimmer by the day. The iPhone 5s will likely get a plastic case and name change to iPhone 6c so in that sense I suppose 4" will live on for a while longer but not in their premium models.
