Yes, let us all live up to the stereotype of iPhone owners as snooty, snobbish, bordeaux-swilling prats, who look down their noses at people who don't live their lives the way we do.  That said, I prefer beer to wine but I go for an IPA or a stout and haven't touched a local mass brew in 25 years.  And I've learned to appreciate the occasional Barolo or Margaux.  What does that make me?

I’m to understand that if you don’t regularly imbibe Chateau lafite Rothschild ’86 you’re nothing more than a commoner.

Trust me, I have a lot of experience in generalizing and I have no problems with stereotyping certain groups.

When Android is compared to iOS, they lump every single Android manufacturer on the planet together VS one company, Apple.

I see no issues at all with lumping every single Android user on the planet together when speaking about them.

I would agree about having experience as I do as well. Although, not every single user of an Android device is poor. I know of some extremely wealthy people who are extremely smart as well that use Android devices. I also know of some extremely disgusting people who are poor that use iOS devices.

You could easily generalize that Apple users are snooty and a-holes as they think they are better than everyone else and the brand they covet should be the one and only. Reminds me of the mindset of Natzi Germany. You seem to slant towards that way but I won't judge you as I've never met you and I'm sure you're a fine person who is loving to others.

You can do the opposite with Android users and say they are all poor and scum and they think they are better because of the so called open platform and got a better deal. Some are some are not. Most are poor if you expand out worldwide.

When I hang out with a big group if friends we all have different types of phones. They are always iOS and Android and all are flagship high-end but we don't make fun of each other because of what phone they use. Most of my group of friends try out my phone because I always get whatever the latest flagship phone there is on the market. They respect my opinion when they ask what phone they should get because they see me use both iOS and Android and I also ask questions that will fit their needs. Not everyone needs an iOS or Android device.

I don't judge people for what device they use as a whole and it looks wrong that you do.

I'm unemployed, on disability, on welfare assistance, am atheist, own a house, am
Technically in poverty status, hated beer all my life (only started to begin to enjoy some fancy beers in the last year), drive my own car that I bought new in 1997, while working a professional IT job, hate tech geek attitudes and most of the computer industry, hate firearms and gun nuts (and their religious brethren), am politically left but hate democrats and libertarians almost as much as i hate republicans, i hate Walmart, Fox News and fast food, am vegetarian, have flown to attend the first gathering of Haiku-OS (WalterCon, where it was named), but will never fly again until the TSA is disbanded and we regain our civil liberties and lost freedoms, I hate the stock market and American capitalism, but did not sit in on any occupy movement location, and have resigned myself to starting my own business as the only way I'll ever work again, but generally hate the way most entrepreneurs blindly buy into libertarian/capitalist propaganda and spread it with their hate of the lazy lower class and the disabled ...

...and i began converting to Apple product after owning and loving my first iPhone in 2007 (original model; I'm on my second, the iPhone 4). It was a stark contrast to the lifetime of DOS and Windows BS I had suffered thus far. I choose what I spend money on very carefully because I have so very little and have zero tolerance for crap (such as Apple's horrible iOS 7). Oh yeah: I love iPhone/iPad and hate iOS 7 with conviction (I just gave a friend a demo at staples and she agreed that the only reason she could figure it out was because she's used to iOS 5 on the iPhone 1, which I gifted to her, as she's also poor).

I'm certain i could continue bucking various stereotypes and statistical assumptions. Every statistic has its very clear exceptions, some are BS, and stereotypes do more harm than good. Know an individual by experiencing their multitude of individual traits, not by one grand assumption.

The big takeaway from this is the realization that it's difficult to make a blanket-statement comparison of "Android" users and iPhone users.

iPhones are some of the most expensive phones on the market... while Android phones can be expensive or cheap. That's a big distinction.

If you have a lot of money... you can buy an iPhone or an Android phone. You actually have that choice.

But if you're poor... Android phones are your only option... because those are what happen to fall within your price range.

Not all Android phones are cheap... but... the cheapest phones tend to run Android.

If you're going to accuse me of slanting towards a certain way, it might be useful for you to know that it's spelled Nazi, and not Natzi.

When people talk about Apple users, or when Apple users are portrayed in commercials, they're usually always one homogeneous group, that all think the same or are all alike (sheep etc.).

But when I'm talking about Android users, all of a sudden I'm expected to go out of my way and break it down into high end Android vs low end Android? <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

Sorry, but it's not my job to segregate between different types of Android users, they're all really the same to me, as they all use the same horrible OS. I don't really care how much they paid for their phones.

The study's own author lended credibility to it in the last paragraph.  His conclusion is that there is little difference between Android and Apple users based on the criteria of what type of phone they use, and that the primary distinguishment came from income demographics.  Wealthier people tend to fly and drink wine more than people with less income- who tend to drink beer and drive the bus.

That makes you one if "us." No way could a phablet-bearing, beer swilling, neuron-impaired Android user string together (or even understand) the words in your first sentence. Of course, the world is not all black and white, there will be wine-drinking Android users around as long as Mogen David or Ripple wine is sold in brown-paper sacks.

Yes I know it's spelled Nazi. I'm on my phone and you should know auto correct can get the best of anyone. I apologize I didn't go through word for word and spell check. I also wasn't comparing you to that just the thought process as a whole.

I'm definitely not trying to argue with you as you seem to be a fun person to have a civil debate with but when you eluded that all users of Android are poor and you have a low thought process of them is not a good way to live.

No problem. We all make mistakes when typing on our portable devices, or even on our desktop keyboards.

I have never claimed that all Android users are poor though, I've made that clear in the past on other threads. I'm pretty sure that Google employees who have Android phones are not poor by any definition. There are always exceptions to the rule and people who deviate from the statistical median.  I do believe that many Android customers are financially challenged though, and that's why they choose what they choose. Many does not mean all.

Well, that's something I can completely agree with. Most, NOT ALL, Android users are of the economically challenged. Although, there are still a growing number of the same on iOS with cheaper free iPhones. No where near the numbers of Android but it is growing.

Ah, but the measure of a man lies in what he choses in that case. If he choses the iPhone, he is a man of distinction and has cultured tastes and women are drawn to his confident bearing. If he choses the other phone, he is immediately cast among the teaming unfortunates among us with no discernment of what is cool and fashionable. He will likely pick a phone case that is as loud in color as his shirt and decorated with gee-gaws that coordinate with the stains on his shirt-front from last night's beer-infused drunken brawl. He is then doomed to a life alone and friendless except with more of his ilk who attempt to compensate for their lack of manliness by buying oversized android phones and picking fights with their fellow bus-refuse over trifles that could easily be settled by searching the internet... if only he could figure out how to use the cursed device.

I don't think it is as much not being able to afford good things as it is not valuing good things. Some people spend just as much on an Android phone as they would an iPhone because they were wooed by a specific feature or two. Others think a phone is a phone and buy whatever is on sale.
Then of course you have carriers like At&t who sends me emails every week trying to convince me to buy a android phone. If you go to their website you would think they only sell android. You have to search for an iPhone. You'd think the top selling phone on their network was Samsung. The fact that Apple beats them on all the major US carriers speaks volumes
