okay, apple.com seems back up, but store connection still times out. hmmm...

    I've found Apple's IP to be 17.254.0.91.

If you enter that, everything works. (well, I guess not, the store is still screwy)

However, if you enter <a href="http://www.apple.com,"; target="_blank">www.apple.com, it can never connect.

DNS must be mixed up somewhere.

[EDIT: Crap, looks like I just happen to hit it exactly when it came back up.... Nevermind.]

    Yep.

Home page and everything but Store loads instantly. Store either times out, or gives WO error message:

Did not receive any response from application. It is possible that the application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect.

either too many hits (unlikely), a glitch (more likely)....or something is up (dreaming...but a guy can dream)....when i saw the new saying last night (count the days, count the minutes) just after midnight pacific coast time i asked SJ to release stuff early as no one would be buying anything between now and the 7th with all the hints and stuff...maybe he is listening    g

I predict that when it comes back up, iMacs will be 'temporarily unavailable'

I'd say they have generated more interest than they anticipated.

A manual DDoS attack by millions of GHz starved Mac Freaks, all rabidly clicking their single mouse button in worldwide synchronized precision.

I love Apple. This is gonna be a Great MacWorld!

the default apple netscape page for internet explorer (i never change my home page for my browser 'cause i'm lazy, and i reinstall every two months, just to clean things up) is also down now.

this is friggin' NUTS! has anyone been witness to such an utter implosion of apple-related sites at once?

ah, do not underestimate the most powerful effect on the internet today... the slashdot effect. IT tech.'s have been driven to nigh-insanity trying to keep up servers in its teeth.

    store.apple.com:

"Did not receive any response from application. It is possible that the application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect"

I don´t think there is anything to it. If they changed things it would be during the keynote.

apple.com seems to be going in and out. Currently (as of 10am PST), it's back up again.

But the store is completely out, at all times. At least for me. I haven't been able to access the store in two hours of randomly trying.

Get a message about application not existing or something.

Did not receive any response from application. It is possible that the application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect.

I think they should put a sign up at the store saying "in an effort to keep any non-Mac geeks and rabid followers of Apple from making a costly, dumbass buying error, the Apple Store is closed until next Monday, January 7."

Think about the poor, out-of-the-loop fool who wanders into Apple's online store on Thursday or Friday and orders a top-end iMac, thinking he's got the most cutting edge, bitchin' iMac ever...

I would not want to be anywhere around him come Monday morning when he discovers that if he had waited three or four more days, he could have a prettier, faster, more tricked-out and cooler iMac for the same money he just dropped.

    "@$%$@*&#!!"

I get a web objects error when i try to access store.apple.com as well.

    apple.com is working fine though.

I checked out apple's hardware section i noticed that there isn't even a picture of the imac on the hardware page. Has it been like this for a while? or is this new?
