I wonder if they'll eventually be able detect if you have cancer.

Samsung: "We're giving this device to all our employees"

So long as it helps people that are suffering/ are in the hospital-emergency room I could really give a rat's arse WHO'S technology is being used - Apple, Samsung or whoever.

Quite honestly if you're in the emergency room of some hospital I highly doubt that your first thought is going to be which company the equipment/os is coming from and if it's not Apple you'll request a change of venue.

No... Of all the places Samsung can pick, they choose right next to Apple.

Meh. But even if Samsung is doing this out of a deep seated fear losing to another Apple-led Next-Big-Thing-pocalypse, they're at least doing a good thing by letting developers and geeks get their hands on it. I mean, since innovation is traditionally not a chaebol thing, might as well crowd source it.

Samsung's thinking they're onto something big, when it's simply going to be a niche market that people will dabble in for a day or two (hello gym memberships after the New Year!), then throw away in the closet next to the eight pairs of Nikes with empty iPod Sensor slots.

Unsurprisingly, Samsung will spend 83x on marketing, where x is the amount they will make on it.

Yes because Apple spending the last two years hiring industry experts and R&D in no way means they see a future in these devices.

More than likely anything that comes of Samsung's efforts here will end up exactly as you think; used a couple of times, and then thrown in a drawer because it sucked.

On the other hand... anything Apple develops and releases will be well thought out and supported by the company making it a joy to use by their customers who have a need for such features/devices.

Facing a crisis due to the reduced order for Apple application processors (AP), the foundry business of Samsung Electronics has reached a new turning point. Global fabless customers have been continuously placing orders since Samsung Electronics (SEC) integrated the next-generation fab platform, such as 14nm FinFET, with Global Foundries. Whether the allied forces of SEC and Global Foundries will threaten the absolute power in the foundry market, TSMC, attracts our attention.

So basically, Samsung has to partner up with another foundry in order to pull in customers to make up for Apple's exit? Gotcha.

^^^^^ Funny that Apple sues Samsung and when Apple wins a judgement allows Samsung to pay off the lawsuits with the money Apple pays them for making parts they need? LMAO

Right again: anything Apple develops and releases will be well thought out and supported by the company making it a joy to use by their customers who have a need for such features/devices ... but will be late a year or a year and a half on other's technologies.

Too bad this Samsung health $h!t wasn't available before those cancer deaths of their factory workers - it would have saved them for sure. :(

I agree that whatever Apple makes will be awesome, but I just don't think this health stuff will go mainstream. The fitness-nazis will buy these in droves, but I can't imagine a sustainable (read: profitable) ecosystem. It'll just be another category in the App Store, with none of the apps penetrating the Top 10 after the first week of buyer curiosity runs out.

This event is of no value since all this affair had bad press. People's see that as "Apple is doing business with bad boys".

Does Samsung's provision of a secure repository for storing unstructured personal health data in the cloud mean that it falls under the definition of a 'health care clearinghouse' and must demonstrate compliance with HIPAA?

As a company which provides such a platform on behalf of other companies for US subscribers, it would appear to meet the definition:

This is really unfortunate these workers of Samsung died of cancer. Samsung has recognised its responsibility, they immediately took the necessary steps and this situation will not happen again. Families will receive millions of dollars, but it is very sad.

Samsung has developed on the S5 galaxy a Stress Analyzer that could save hundreds of workers in subcontracting currently for Apple. We know the unfortunate story of stress that drove hundreds of workers of the subcontractor for Apple plants to death.

The less could Apple do, would be to provide all workers of its subcontractors a S5 Galaxy knowing that this advanced technology can save their life.

Purely wishful thinking on your part, Mr. Shill. Apple has been doing business with truly bad boys--namely Samsung--and that hasn't detracted. The Beats relationship has no expiration date either--unlike the contracts with Samsung. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

The only possible reply to this unquestionable logic is WTF?! O.O

Fortune was not a significant factor, carelessness was.

Samsung has recognised its responsibility, they immediately took the necessary steps and this situation will not happen again.

    You can't possibly know that.

Families will receive millions of dollars, but it is very sad.

I guess that makes it all ok then.
