Dr. Dre is a specific person. It's not offensive to refer "his gut" rather than "their gut."

And..... what would you advise? When you have enough money to buy whatever clothing you want I really don't think he cares what you or I think. It just seems sad that in America the only people out to get you are other Americans. Quit being so envious and be happy for him or just be QUIET. Have a good day.

VERY true quote. Steve Jobs is no Dr. Dre either. They are both successful, but if you look at all of the blatant racism, and discrimination in  this country he shouldn't have made it. If you think what I'm saying is false, just read the threads. We'd quickly send a man like him to fight for any war we get ourselves in, but usually show zero support in accepting him, or even respecting him.

I'm not picking a fight with you (you definitely have one of the nicer posts).

Yeah, imagine hiring on a guy who made a fortune from his music and not content with that, went on to co-found a very lucrative business.

You gotta think outside the box a little.

Just think, Dre is more successful than you'll ever be, even if you multiplied your wildest dreams by a factor of a hundred.

Right and $$wealth is always the gauge for success. Apple should hire P Diddy too while they're at it. And Mariah Carey too.

When I was at a Apple hiring thing a few years back, the Dr.Dre stuff was in their marketing. Apple wouldn't be selling it if it wasn't good for some reason. Personally I'm just mad that specifications aren't being put on headphone packaging/online anymore. Your average piece-o-crap headphones have 20-18,000hz range the better ones have 8-24,000, but I've only been able to find specs on the stuff put out by the Japanese companies (Sony, JVC, Panasonic) and none of the cheap low-end store-brands, nor any of the high-ends (including this beats by dr.dre stuff.)

If we assume that there is some reason to spend 100$ instead of 6$ on earbuds, or 300$ instead of 30$ for headphones, I sincerely want to see specs showing there's a reason to spend this money. Let's be serious here. We know Apple is a premium luxury brand, and you do pay more for the better designed durable pretty hardware. I can genuinely justify spending more for a Mac laptop, but not for a Mac desktop, because I tend to replace parts incrementally with a desktop, and you just can't do that with any Mac.

Why wouldn't Apple be selling it if Iovine wasn't Jobs good friend? They were sold more as a fashion accessory than anything else. Like Kate Spade iPhone cases.

You mean the way Steve Jobs was older than Dr. Dre is now back in 1997 and yet under him the iPod, modern Macs, iPhone and iPad, and a plethora of services, like iTunes Music Store were born?

You mean so uncool that Beats By Dre was able to dominate the headphone market's revenue and profits. If you add the claims that they are the worst sounding, work looking, and worst quality headphones yet sold at an inflated price how the hell are the selling? Sounds like definition of cool to me.

And none of those came out in 1997 or before. And Jony Ive the designer of them all was very young at the time yet SJ gets all the credit?

Dr. Dre is described as a perfectionist, workaholic and someone who relies on their gut -- like late Apple cofounder Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs wasn't compared like this to someone seen as the original so to in fact be like Steve, you'd have to never be comparable to Steve, slight oxymoron here but you'd have to be unique just as Steve was. Most of the people used in these kind of comparisons are unique and the use of the comparison is meaningless. The intention seems to be to offer some hope to people who don't want to accept Steve isn't here any more and that particular uniqueness is gone. Elvis wasn't like the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, they have their unique traits and style.

We don't need people to be like Steve but people who follow the same values and who are as passionate about their core interests. Dre and Iovine appear to be these kind of people.

I've been following Dre's career for the past decade.

This guy is a perfectionist and has conquered the greatest trials. He's the guy people say "is dead" then suddenly is number one again. This guy has had hits since the 80's. He ran one of the most successful record company's ever, after critics said his career was dead. He brought the worlds first cool headphones that copycats are trying to catch up to.

"Music is deeply embedded in our DNA"
You'd have to be silly to not see that Dr. Dre is a welcome addition at Apple.

Dr. Dre is my favorite record producer and Apple is my favorite company. A match made in heaven to me and the last few weeks have been laughter and extacy.

Still I hope the headphones get a nice redesign with tougher construction.

Probably most of the naysayers about the Beats-Apple deal are people who are subconsciously fearful that some thingS monumental might just result.  At this point nobody knows, but I love the shake up and mix of new high-level talent and blood being brought into the picture, (including Angela Ahrendts), just around the time Apple is bringing out new, improved products, software, and services.   Just the speculation has brought millions of dollars worth of free publicity and attention to the brands (and probably to the stock valuation).   I continue to have very high confidence in Tim Cook and how he is handling the highest "high wire act" in all of business.  And for those skeptics about the Beats deal, don't worry, I'm sure Tim is not going to be handing over the keys to the Company to anyone anytime soon.

Noone is saying Dre is Jobs. Some are saying that Dre has certain aspects of his personality and character that can be compared to that of jobs. There's nothing ridiculous or "HAHAHAHAHA" worthy about such a statement. I obviously would not put them on the same level, then again I have not followed Dre and know almost nothing about his successes, not to mention they're in different industries.

I love the way Rogifan in post number 4 questions the journalism of the WSJ over this piece, calling it click bait, when just a day ago he was linking with a perfectly straight face to the the Buzzfeed fantasy based on unnamed sources, a complete piece of clownage. Can s/he be any more transparent?

The whole gist of the article is a comparison of Dr Drek to Steve Jobs and their similarities because he now resides at the house of Apple.

And yes it is very HAHAHAHAHA worthy- in fact it's Ludicrous.

You're a clown. God forbid someone happen to have an accessory that matches with their particular piece of clothing that day. Did you piss and moan about the U2 branded iPod and all of the camaraderie with Steve Jobs and Bono? Or, have you simply reserved that for "street" artists such as Dre. (Nice use of a code word there btw, bet it just killed you to have figure out a way to disguise your little bit of racism here online.)

I can totally see the parallels between the two that are alluded to in the article. Dre took a decade to release his second album and has yet to release the third all while propping up artist after artist since the early 90s. He's responsible for two of the greatest hip hop albums of all-time, so his attention to detail isn't to be taken lightly.

Snoop Dog, Ice Cube, Dre was the founder of NWA. Beats hit the target perfectly, people that don't care about sound perfection they want heavy bass to overcome the rest of the music. Not sure what plans Apple has for him but he certainly has a creative mind.

I know nothing about Dre, and have no problem with Apple hiring him. I also have no problem with the Beats acquisition - I have no idea why Apple bought them, and what will come of it. It could be a great business decision.

I just hope he has a much different job at Apple - leave the sound design to others.
