[quote] power macs only sell to companies now?

and these upgrades are NOT significant enough to make quicksilver owners upgrade.<hr></blockquote>

Hmm, do they not sell Powermacs to companies? If a company needs to use Macs then they need all the Power they can handle so they buy the top of the line from Apple, at any price and that price is even lower making the price/ performance ratio better.

[quote]uhh... a computer does not equal life. you really need to learn the difference

do they ever make a bad one according to you<hr></blockquote>

To some people computers are their lively hood. Man, some people actually do need to get work done.

Apple happens to make the least bad business decision that affect me than any other company.

[quote]uh,, the displays aren't worth paying that much.<hr></blockquote>

Apple has the finest digital LCD flat panel displays on the market for their prices. The promo softens the total price to buyers who are paying a lot already. Apple runs a business you know, making money helps a business, that is unless you want the next displays to suck because they needed to cut quality for price reductions (Dell anyone?).

[quote]no, you're just not the only one with your head straight up Jobs' ass<hr></blockquote>

You post on these forums as well. Does the Powermac update effect you that much? I didnt think so. And if you were in the market for a Powermac then you would be happy with the news. I dont know where else i can get a faster Photoshop machine for under $3,000.

very few companies NEED to use macs. most do it by choice. the choice isn't as easy as it once was

I am in the market and this news does not make me happy. it makes me extremely dissapointed. the systems suck for the price. understand that?

dual athlons, dual P4s, etc. give me a break. there is more to the world than apple's press release info and advertisements

and the original point of my message was that the rebate is bad due to the date of its end creating speculation. you say that doesn't matter. Sure seems odd considering apple does all it can possibly do to kill speculation and rumors. so obviously speculation and rumors are detrimental to their sales

Nobody in the industry pays attention to promotion end dates, they pay attention to deadlines.

Apple kills rumors because they do indeed get $ from the faithfull. I dont think dates on the end of a promotion means anything, what was then end date last time? When did it really end?

What could Apple be updating at the end of this promo? Maybe Powermacs, but i doubt it. I think more likely they will update the displays themselves. Look for MWNY to be the next PM update.

Apple did not just cut the price of the displays for no good reason, they dont lose money the way they are doing it. If I buy a PM and a display the promotion really is giving me a break on the Powermacs margin, not the display's. If I buy a display seperately the margin for Apple on that item is less, therefore they charge top $ on it.

They could support DDR RAM as much as they want, it would still be more or less completely useless until the G4 gets a faster front side bus first.

The new offer from Apple called Screen-Saver, it ends march 31.... and what is the next day????? April the first, which is Apple 26th anniversary , so expect to see the new G5 to be introduced this day

    <hr></blockquote>

LOL, yeah, Steve announces a 2.4 GHz G5 on April 1. Then on April 2 he announces, "April fools!!!".

I doubt we'll see a G5 until MWNY, but I'll say 50/50 odds for a G5 before the end of April.

This is not a dumb marketing move. You know why? These displays probably won't exist after March 31.

Everything points to a major Mac OS X birthday bash. New monitors, new CPUs, an upgrade to OS X 10.2, etc.

Rebates exist so you don't bring down the retail price..to prep for the next generation. Apple's being smart here. I'm going to buy a Dual 1 GHz machine sometime this week, probably, and while I thought about using my 19 inch Diamondtron, the $300 off I'd get for buying the 17 inch LCD is too good to pass up.

People are not buying the LCDs because there are cheaper alternatives, but cutting the prices on LCDs does not provide incentive to buy a new Mac.

Who wants to be against me and say a whole new generation of LCDs won't be out by the end of March?

If it was a message they would have just wrote a message at the bottom of the Powermac store page that said, "Ok, we don't have it yet, but it's coming soon and here's something to tide over the people who NEED to buy now." </strong><hr></blockquote>

That is exactly what they are saying. They just don't need to put in writing. Its called reading between the lines. Fred Anderson even hinted that after the new iMac introduction products in the first half of the year would be transitional and that big things were in store for the second half of the year.

Apple doesnt run a business by hinkting at display release dates. Apple just posted the end date to the promo which indicates to rumor mongers that there will be new displays and or Powermacs.

I dont think the reason was explicitly to let us know when the new stuff would be released. In my opinion Apple doesnt even know when the new stuff will be ready until very shortly before they release it themselves.

Buy a Power Mac G4 and an Apple flat-panel** display between January 28 and March 31, 2002, and get a picture-perfect deal. You?ll save on your choice of a 15-inch or 17-inch Apple Studio Display or the breathtaking 22-inch Apple Cinema Display.

    Apple Fiscal Q2 ends March ~28 ...

Move on, nothing to see here.

Thanks, Blabla, that's a very interesting tidbit.

So perhaps this rebate offer is to boost sales for this quarter, so Apple can report decent financial status? It's surprising that this would be necessary given the sales of the new iMac, but perhaps the new iMac is not enough to offset the dismal sales of the powermacs. I'll be surprised if the new Powermacs sell much better than the old, since there isn't a very tangible difference between them.

Me, if I had the money, I'd buy a dual GHz Powermac w/ 17" LCD display to cash in on that rebate, it's a sweet deal! Combined with the lowered price of the Powermacs, it amounts to a substantial price cut by Apple. A good sign...maybe Apple is catching on, that if they lower prices, the extra volume can make up for the lost margins?

Well, oops...the rebate was *almost* too good to pass up. I decided to stick with my Diamondtron after-all...one of my computers just bit the dust.
