Eddy Cue latest Apple executive to offer up lunch date for charity, throws in MacBook Air

Apple fans have another chance at a sit-down with a member of the company's senior leadership, as internet software and services chief Eddy Cue has put one hour of his time up for auction -- and sweetened the pot with a 13-inch MacBook Air -- in the Fortune 500 equivalent of a charity dunk tank.

Cue is following Apple CEO Tim Cook's lead in auctioning a lunch date on charity auction site CharityBuzz, with Cue's auction set to benefit the National Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation. At press time, the highest of 15 total bids was some $9,500 with the site estimating the value of lunch with Cue at $10,000.

Cook has appeared on the site twice before, fetching nearly $1 million in total for a one-hour coffee and a one-hour lunch. He chose to direct donations to the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights.

As was the case with Cook, Cue will host up to two guests -- after they have passed a security screen. Scheduling could take up to one year from the auction's close, based on Cue's availability, and travel and lodging are not included.

Cue did do Cook one better, however, adding in a $1,199 13-inch MacBook Air. Bidding closes at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on July 16.

Here come howls of disappointment about the MacBook Air specs, in 3,2,1...

    Well that changes everything!

I wasn't originally planning to bid on this auction, seeing that the current price is around $9500.00, and the winning bid will obviously be higher than that, but now that the MacBook Air is included, I'm just going to have to jump on this.<img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

The next time Tim offers a lunch, he’ll be the one to cook it.

And then Craig auctions off spending a week with him just playing pranks, skydiving, and generally appearing not to do any work at all.

Then Jony slides in with an auction to go with him to Taco Bell at 3 AM and sit in complete silence until 5, not ordering anything, before being taken to an aluminium processing plant where Jony will personally hand-cut you a rounded cube of anodized aluminum.

If I could choose anybody to have lunch with at Apple, then my choice would be Jony Ive, because of his creative work.

I'd never even heard of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation, and I don't even really like basketball, but it's just as valid a cause as any other number of the usual lame and boring charity causes that people give to.

People can donate to whatever interests them, and for whatever reason, Eddy Cue has an interest in donating money to this basketball coaches foundation, so who are you to question his donation choice? People are free to donate to whoever they please in this country, as long as it's legal and the recipients are not a bunch of dirty terrorists or anything like that, obviously.

Interesting read, and lucky person, not to mention well connected.

Cue is a Duke alumnus and thus, unsurprisingly, a Duke basketball fan; I imagine that has something to do with his choice of charities. The NABC Foundation supports the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and also sponsors literacy programs for middle school kids. They also have a fund to support member coaches who fall on hard times due to unemployment or medical problems.

So another corporate fatcat gets a tax-deductible meeting to push their agenda. My suggestion is a lottery and that all those interested pay a flat $50 and the winner gets lunch and to pick the charity.

Did not mean to offend. This was intended to be a bit of sarcasm (my apologies if there really is an International Underwater Basket Weavers Association).

I thought about tagging ( /s or ¡ ) but figured it was obvious -- apparently not.

I wish that the voice of the un-wealthy could get such attention from Apple. Rich folks are not as up on technical issues and not as apt to make high quality hardware / software recommendations as normal people.

And I thought the political talk in other threads was nonsense.
