Please tell us more about how slacktivism does anything for anyone, anywhere.
Come on TS, what in the world has happened to you over the last few years? You used to post intelligent and sometimes humorous posts that I loved to read, but lately you seemed to be "impersonating" the perfect troll, and for cryin' out loud, aren't there already enough of those idiots on this site already? The article states: Since the challenge began on July 29, the ALS Association and its 38 chapters have received $4 million in donations. That compares to just $1.12 million during the same period last year. You don't have to be a genius to see the result of this...... Please tell us more about how slacktivism does anything for anyone, anywhere.
Get a life. And a sense of humor, while you're at it.
I'm not the biggest TS fan but he's right. Laughing at water being dumped on someone's head ended for me around the same time I stopped using training wheels. I don't think a sense of humor means laughing at everything. I am personally put off by how this is seems more about making another selfie than ALS awareness.
Like I said before, if having fun offends or annoys anyone then you really need to get a sense of humor or learn to appreciate more in life.
I have no problem with people do this. The act alone is a refreshing blast of stupidity in a sea of already grossly stupid actions. " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
The fact that it’s tied to a charity and that it’s given as an option instead of meaningfully contributing to said charity makes it slacktivism.
Saw Zuckerberg do this yesterday and he called out Bill Gates. Of all the people doing this I think Gates or Cook would be the most interesting.
I think Tim would take it in his stride, he's a fitness guy - he probably takes cold showers every day at 4:30am. Bill Gates on the other hand is a dweed. Here's him getting hit with a pie:

I love the newscaster's serious tone: "no word on the motive for this attack". Is hilarity a suitable motive?
The people donating could of course just give the cash but it's to encourage other people to join in. Giving cash is boring and it's why cash isn't usually regarded as a good gift:

There's no thought to handing over cash. It's an empty gesture. Actually getting outside and tipping water on yourself says that you care.
What would get your attention, a guy writing a check or someone dumping water over himself?
An organized, researched, moving presentation as to the pertinence of funding a cure for the disease.
Basically, what Apple keynotes are to the cult of product they present. We know how well it works to spur interest in metal, glass, and plastic. It will work equally well for disease cures.
Ebola’s airborne. Maybe a keynote on that sometime?
Sorry, but I have to go with Zoffdino here, based on how verbs work...
Besides, I would say that most folks today are far more familiar with details of Hawkings' plight,
when we think of Gehrig, I'm betting we are really thinking of Gary Cooper.
Doesn't the fact Phil posted a sequence of images, which look like they were taken from video (because of the ratio as well as the fact it looks like he is talking to video in the first frame), smack of a new iOS8 feature?

Can’t I just pour oatmeal down my pants instead? That’s equivalent, according to you.
Yep.

Please "release" the old TS.

He’s dead. There’s not much left of him but the skin and bones that used to hold him.
Sure, but we’re talking specifically about the ice bucket portion.
This is the part that causes consternation with me. It’s equivalent to the “hit the like button” or “share if you agree” nonsense.
Ah, I’d never be able to top “bikini bridge” or the cinnamon challenge (which I can do, by the way; I love cinnamon).

Just make a donation if you are so moved. This fad is as idiotic as Kim Kardashian.
Who pissed in your cereal? With all the seriousness and evil in the world, what's wrong with having a bit of fun for once?

Back to Schiller. Don't those pictures look straight out if an iPhone ad?
Looks like one of the beaches at Half Moon Bay, about 50-60 minutes from Cupertino.
What part of the ALS Association receiving $4 million-plus since this started do you not understand?

What, shouldn't Boston College be known as BCE instead of BC? Ha

BTW, checked the EXIF content on that image, it's been sanitized and doesn't contain any information on the original device used.
Gary Cooper?
Old feature. It's at least on 5s
