It's not very intuitive but it keeps it clean I suppose. Another option might have been to have a magnifying glass icon inside left or outside the URL bar that when tapped makes the URL box into a text search rather than having the autocomplete come up first. Here's what it would look like with a spotlight icon:
It balances out the icon on the other side but they probably have a padlock icon on the left for https sites, which would have to go to the right of the search icon. Also, people might confuse the spotlight icon to be a Google search and wonder how to do an online search but they'd only do that once. Plus a set of icons can appear to skip through the on-page text results along with a button to search for the phrase online.

I hate that so much. What was wrong with the separate field that showed up just above the keyboard? I can NEVER get my ‘find’ results to come up in iOS 7…
