Or, if true, Apple should introduce a feature to their notebook line to disable half the RAM as a battery saving mode.

I don't mean just the state of having more RAM will effect battery life, I'm also talking about the other applications and/or processes that will be alive due to the increase in RAM; which entirely depends on what the application is doing.

For example, going back to the safari tabs. Having extra tabs alive, and not waiting to be refreshed, means more javascript is being ran in the background. This effects battery life (and is completely dependant on what the website is doing).

You are correct on swapping. But as far as I'm aware, iOS does very little swapping, and will just kill processes that are hogging system resources.

    So, we're now permanently including > 500kb a download per 640 x 406 embedded image in PNGs? At 90% quality it's 47.7kb in JPG.

This is just too stupid for words.

iOS doesn't have to change how it handles multiple apps just because more memory is available. Balancing the two is important and I disagree that expecting many Safari tabs to be ready to read like my laptop is asking for too much on my 2014 flagship phone. The hit on battery life with these constraints will not be considerable, especially considering how efficient the newest SOCs are (much less the A8 which should be exceptional). If anything I wonder if it's balanced out by not requiring a reload, especially on a non-wifi connection.

Neither are people that like to monitor stats to simply measure an increase or decrease in fitness.
Every 6 months you're getting a physical? Really now?! I'm calling bullshit on that one. The common pattern is annual checkups every year if you're over 50yo, every couple years from 30 to 40, and every 3yo if you're 20 to 30, but most don't even do that much. You're "I'm not a hypochondriac but I get a physical every 180 days" is you just making shit up. It's getting your teeth cleaned that is recommended twice a year. If you don't what a dentist is then google it.
That makes perfect sense¡ All those sensors need a large screen on my wrist and in on way to can just work on their own or send data to my iPhone via BLE for recording and analysis¡

So then you're saying it's a fitness niche item for athletes. And then why would you need one ? You seem the least likely candidate to be an athlete as you're on here 24/7. Unless you consider reading exercise. Lol

I get physicals twice a year because I am an athlete and have myself fully monitored twice yearly.

Finally you fail to explain why I would want to read a tiny screen at all no matter what it displaying. Your logic about sensor size is a diversion for your very own illogical reasonings.

But it does. Computers adapt to how much working memory they have available. Their is a correlation between the amount of Safari tabs open without refreshing and the RAM in the iPhone. So when you say iOS doesn't have to change the way it handles itself with more RAM - it already does.

I agree, it shouldn't be too much on your 2014 flagship phone, and it won't. My argument is entirely that their is a inverse correlation between the amount of RAM a device has and its battery life. I do not have a measurable number or a percent. But the argument is no less true.

This original discussions started because stylorouge said he hopes the next iPhone should contain 3GB of RAM.

My original point is based around the benefit of doing so; versus the drawback. 3GB of RAM for an iPhone, right now, is overkill (minus an extremely small percentage of apps that may have some use for it). But it will have a drawback, RAM does consume power.

I do agree with your last point though. Calling a refresh over wifi/cellular is definitely more taxing. But like I said with the Javascript, their is no way iOS could let your tabs live because they will need to keep processing, and you may have 10+ tabs open for a who knows how long, unnecessarily running and taking CPU time. I guess that restriction will change in the future though as everything becomes more efficient.

No Prices! What -- are they waiting for reaction from their customer base to see how much to sell them for? Not even for the Note?

The Note doesn't hold anything for me... but it does look like Samedung is refining the look of their watch. I'll buy Apple's (with the round face?) and at the same time appreciate that the Turds are at least making an attempt at a more functional watch.

Re: Apple iWatch -- I'm expecting this to be a proof of concept product (unfortunately, the rumors have been out there long enough for Samedung/Google/Whomever to make their versions... does this mean that Dung will sue?!?).

Not really. What functions can it possibly give me that my iPhone can't? What is the advantage of lifting my arm up to read something tiny rather than lifting a iPhone out of my pocket with a better reading screen? To monitor my heart rate??? Really???
Totally agree. I haven't used a watch since I got my first iPhone (3G). Hoping something revolutionary comes that I don't expect from apple geniuses, but I can't imagine a useful wearable w a smaller screen.

Right, because health is only for athletes¡
And then why would you need one ? You seem the least likely candidate to be an athlete as you're on here 24/7. Unless you consider reading exercise. Lol

I do consider reading an exercise which is I why my reading comprehension is higher than yours by an excessively wide margin.
I get physicals twice a year because I am an athlete and have myself fully monitored twice yearly.

    1) Sure you do¡

    2) There is a type of olympics I can see you participating in but you being an athlete really doesn't sound like Teckstud to me.
Finally you fail to explain why I would want to read a tiny screen at all no matter what it displaying.

    1) I made no comment about a screen.

    2) In no way have made any attempt to tell you why you would want something, but rather to explain why others would be interested in wearable CE.
Your logic about sensor size is a diversion for your very own illogical reasonings.

Now you're not even making sense.

Most iterative stuff as expected, though early reviews seem to be praise the screen similar to the 1440p S5 LTE-A screen. These newest AMOLEDs seem very impressive and don't have the same power drain and brightness issues as LCD 1440p screen in this size.

The Gear VR is pretty darn cool though - no doubt it's still more of a toy and not a prime-time thing, but if the price is right, I might get one just to play around. Watching movies is going to be immersive and I don't mind beta-ing a bunch of new 3D games and app. This is going to be a fun space and I'm looking forward to seeing it evolve (vs. waiting for it to be polished).
I bet it will be way overpriced

Agreed, but if you look at his later post about what hardware he has used there is no ipad listed, so guess that explains his limited thoughts.

Actually the most interesting thing about Samsung's release is that they are doing it a week before Apple.

Strategically I would have put my money on an after Apple release to take away from the Apple release.

With this release AND the product not being available, its got a good chance of being lost as soon as Apple's release is made.  Even dedicated Samsung users cant buy this until after they see what Apple has to offer so its not even giving them first to market sales.

The Tizen UI for that Gear smartwatch is the most lagtacular thing I've seen since the early days of Android.

Here's a quick work-around, and it'll save you money too. Take the box the iPhone comes in and cut a couple eye-holes in the bottom. Tape it to your face and walk around... you will be amazed at the 3D effect and the colors are absolutely correct!. Thank me later.

In timing this even Samsung was knocking off Palm's strategy... which worked so spactacularly for them, if you recall...
