Rounded cables are the least of his problems. I actually prefer folding ribbon cable along the side of the case, but whatever.

Alcimedes, if you've got the case off for cooling, you'd probably do better with the case on...and intelligent fan placement, and cleaning up the wires...

ha ha ha. i was wondering how long until people started to notice it was ugly. i think that among everyone i know who has computer cases, mine was offically classified as the ugliest.

    a few answers for you.

1st, the cables aren't rounded because you have a pay at least twice as much for rounded cables, and i had a ton of regular ones just sitting around. i eventually had to round them out some because i couldn't fit the cables in otherwise.

    2. i had to have at least 10 bays or more, so i took an old AT case we had at work and hacked the crap out of it so it would hold an ATX motherboard. (hence the two power supplies) i needed a lot of juice, but the old AT powersupply won't hook up to my motherboard of course.

(all of this was done on a budget of $0, so i didn't have a lot to work with other than what i could scavange)

    3. the case is off, not for cooling, but because i'm constantly swapping hardware in and out. i don't think that machine goes for more than a week without me tweaking something inside just for kicks. i got tired of taking the case on and off, so i just leave it off all the time now.

    4. i don't bother cleaning up the wires because everything is constantly changing, so what's the point?

hope that clears up some of your questions.

btw, it's an overclocked 1.4 athlon, running at 1.6 something. the dual power supplies were to keep from having to shell out $75 for a nice 500W+ power supply. i have four hard drives (3 40's and a 6) two cd burners (one is 24x) and a dvd player.

toss in your zip drive, floppy drive and you rapidly run out of room.

i had another cd burner in there, but it was crappy so i gave it away. so i had 10 bays filled, now i've got 9 filled, and room for one more thing!

now i just have to figure out what i want. DVD+RW burners are still too much money on the PC side, and not as well integrated. maybe they'll get cheaper this year.....

The title says pictures, right? So far we've seen one setup. Let's have more.

Oops. Yes, I haven't put up a picture either <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> . My camera is out in the car. It's cold outside. I'll do it tomorrow.

Yeah, that's a real problem. I've got a piece of wood at the bottom and it's killed. On the back though I have my external HD and now my iBook since I've got a 15" LCD now.

Yes, everything is done on my iMac...and in a couple of weeks, it'll be done more quickly and with a larger monitor, hard drive, etc.

For what I do, an iMac (ESPECIALLY the new ones) are perfect: nice all-in-ones with no clutter, I've no need for PCI slots, extra drive bays, etc. And I'm not a hardcore Photoshop or Final Cut Pro guy where a G4 is essential, etc., so why not an iMac?

The desk was $99 at Office Depot. Got it about a year-and-a-half ago. I like it. I'll probably put the iSub down below eventually.

I always just rest my feet on the bottom there. Never really hit or haven't torn it up.

You are a prime example of a PRO using the necessary tools to get a job done, your set up is nothing overly expensive but nice (very neat). I would like to see some other people's work that they have done with high end powermacs, you know the ones who always complain instead of work?

    I really love tangerine too.

Yeah, I've never been into the whole "bragging rights/power freak" thing.

I get everything done I need to get done, in millions of colors on a nice little 400MHz G3. In addition to not being a hardcore Photoshop or FCP guy, I'm also not a gamer, so things like frame rate and stuff don't factor in either.

I've been nothing but thrilled and happy with my little tangerine jellybean for two years now. I defy anyone to find a post where I complain about lack of speed or performance, and how I "NEED something more powerful NOW, otherwise I'm jumping ship...".

And yes, I'm an absolutey tangerine/orange freak, so this new iMac is going to reflect that. The lamp will stay and I have an translucent tangerine mousepad that I'll use. Also, I took those one of those OS X tile desktop patterns into Photoshop and recolored it with an orange hue, so that'll be my new iMac's desktop. That or the old "tangerine fusion" from OS 9.

Just because my new iMac can't be tangerine, doesn't mean my accessories/add-ons/peripherals can't be...

Pscates, could you post the desktop tangerine image?! That would be really cool.
