Understanding iPhone 6 screen size in relation to text and UI element size

I'm hoping you can help me figure this out.  I'm using an iPhone 5 and am planning on upgrading to an iPhone 6.  I'm trying to choose between the two new models.

As we now know, the new screen sizes are 1,334-by-750 at 326ppi for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, and 1,920-by-1080 pixels for the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.

Help me understand those screen sizes and resolutions in terms of how large text and UI elements will look on the new models, compared to my iPhone 5.  I'm not talking about which device shows more stuff on screen, but rather, which shows text and UI elements in a larger size (not including zooming in).

Also: how do current apps work with these larger screens?  Are they stretched?  Zoomed?  Black bars around the unused screen space for apps that haven't been optimized for the new screen sizes?

Get the 4.7”: the one that can actually be used. Apple has a page comparing the models.

What the heck does THAT mean?  The 5.5 can't actually be used?  I really wish people wouldn't troll.  Not that it matters, but, I'm a guy with large hands and long fingers, so the size isn't a problem for me.  And the page you linked to answers none of the questions I asked.  I'm not asking about screen size or device size, but rather, the size of elements displayed on the new models in comparison to the size of those same elements as seen on an iPhone 5.

    How large?

    Ah, it’s this, then, sorry.

That page hints at answers to my questions but doesn't provide actual answers.  The "Display View" part, in particular, looks interesting.  I assume that's a menu setting...?

EDIT:  it looks like Apple may have addressed this a bit during the part of the keynote when the stream crashed for me.  I found some info about app scaling here.

Yes, sorry, I forgot to mention to scroll to the middle. That’s what I meant.

It is unusably sized as a phone or a tablet. It’s the pathetic in between size that absolutely no one can use.

    That’s hilarious! I haven’t heard that one before. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

Unuseable for TallestSkil, perhaps... and for others too, no doubt.  But his opinion does not count for EVERYone... I think he will soon see that there are more than enough people out there that find the 6+ size perfectly useable. I use my phone for reading as much as any other single task... the larger screen of the 6+ will be awesome for me, and still perfectly useable.

    How do you figure?

    Who did the survey?

    What was the sample size?

Did the respondents actually get to hold the 6+ before answering? (or better yet, USE it for a bit.)

I could as easily state that your opinion actually represents only 2.3% of the entire population of the earth... but... I'd just be pulling that number out of my ass, same as your 90% number. ;)

Truth is, we're about to find out just how many people WANT a bigger iPhone.

Sure, they could have had a bigger phone for years already, but many were willing to sacrifice size for a better OS.  Now they finally have a choice with the superior (opinion) OS and we'll see how sell the 6+ sells.

Sales. Whoever measures sales. The entire cell phone market (I forget if it was world or US). N/A.

    In that order.

...same as your 90% number. ;)

    Nah, try again.
