is it just me or is apple really pushing iphoto? i've seen 8 commercials in the last 2 days,in contrast only 4 dell ads...
yet not one imac ad...
i'm in california, santa barbara- is this just my area or is anyone else seeing this too, btw most were on prime time tv, the big networks

I mean, if it's to "increase awareness and marketshare..." and all that, what good does it do that the only people seemingly aware of the existence of Apple's retail stores are US, the already-faithful?
Weird.
Regardng the iMac ad, I'm sure there's a great one already shot and ready to go. Simply waiting for the iMacs to actually be available in stores (at least the SuperDrive and Combo Drive-equipped models, so mid-February or so?) and they'll probably debut it during the Super Bowl.
The timing makes sense and Apple has certainly done a nice job in the past with Super Bowl commercials.
Being this new iMac is such the cat's meow, I'm betting that's when we'll all see it: maximum impact/exposure, coinciding nicely with the arrival of shipping quantities to all the resellers and mail order people.
That very beginning segment of the little 10 minute iMac promo video with Annie Leibovitz, Seal and Francis Ford Coppola, shown at the Macworld keynote, showed the iMac animated and lively, along with some cool music.
If the guy who did those Pixar animated features directed the iMac commercial, there's probably a really good chance that the new iMac is going to be animated and made to look as cool, cute and friendly as possible.
Part of me thinks the beginning of that promo video includes snippets of the commercial.
I would be very happy with an extended (full 30 seconds) commercial done in the style of the first few seconds of that video. The iMac is dancing and bobbing around, looking VERY cool. Show the door pop open, show the screen, the "iMac" name, the speakers, fleeting shots of the iApps doing their thing, etc. and you have a cool little spot.
I couldn't believe it. On MTV there's been an iPhoto commerical almost every time they run commercials.

Damn your right! I just watched MTV during the commercial break and sure enough the iPhoto spot showed up.

Yep. And then funny thing is this morning right after I posted the commercial was on MTV again.

I watched MTV for about 20 minutes and saw the commercial twice in that time!

Well, it shows the product in action as well as the hardware it needs to be run on. The ad is as good as anything the other hardware/software companies put out....wait Apple is the only hardware/software company left.....no M$ is another (with the XBox etc.), but they show commercials with Madonna music and flying humans.

I think it's one of Apple's better ads in recent years. It's not boring like a lot of their ads are and it shows both the software and their hardware and it gets your attention.

Well in fairness to Apple how do you talk in depth about an application like iPhoto in 30 sec to a minute? They are appealing to emotions, and most likely a woman's emotions too. I guess that's smart.
The other option would be to make it more conversational, e.g. a non Mac user stops over his Mac user friend's house and sees him/her using iPhoto. The Mac user goes onto extol the virtues of iPhoto and his friend is so amazed that he runs right out an buys a new iMac. I'd rather see more of those but I don't think we will.
it's a bad ad overall. just like their other recent "digital hub" ads with the iBook, and the superdrive.
they don't catch your attention.. well maybe you because you're looking for em but any normal person won't think twice about what they are seeing.
How can they do a better job? I don't know. I'm not a marketing guru but I do know that it doesn't do shit for iPhoto. Some guy at his son's birth and he's taking photos and uploading them to an ibook and then lugging the iBook around to share them? It would have been better if they plugged the Kodak printing and he used the pics to print one of those picture books or made a webpage or something.
weak ad. Jobs is getting to sentimental

Maybe you're right with eveything else that you said, but the first time I saw the commercial it got my attention and I didn't know that it was for iPhoto.
